Hi guys

Can anyone plz tell me how to format my ssd so I can reinstall windows 7 , some installed it for me without ahci set. Can I just boot with the windows 7 cd and format from there ?

If you want AHCI, just make sure your drive is set to it in the bios, and install as normal, format as needed.

As you do an HDD. Go in Bios, chose CD/DVD as your first boot, boot from Windows CD, format and then install OS.

This. Just set it to AHCI mode in bios and format it at the start of the install process like you would for any other drive.

You don't have to re-format just to switch to AHCI you know. Follow the steps here instead:

If I want to install windows 8 upgrade version DVD on the ssd do I have to have windows 7 on it first ?

Also I have 2 hard drive in my pc as well, one has my movies and music on. I was going to install games on the other one but didn't know if I could do that incase it would cause lag in games not having them on the same drive as the os?

Should I set all the drives to ahci b4 reinstalling windows ?

So for the questions it just I'm still learning.

Yes, set all the drives to AHCI before re-installing.

It won't cause any lag by having the games on a different drive, but there will be an effect from having them on a spinning disk rather than the SSD. For most games it won't matter, it'll just slightly affect load times, but it can be noticeable on a game that streams data off the drive constantly (I think WoW is known for that). The normal routine is to install the games you are currently playing on the SSD, and then remove or move them to the HDD when they are out of your playing rotation.

ok so i followed the links you gave me to switch to ahci without reinstalling windows 7. then i didn`t know what driver to update the achi with so i let it auto search my motherboard cd because my motherboard is quite new. and this is what it installed AMD SATA CONTROLLER, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers is this right ?

You can check with Crystal DiskInfo - as long as NCQ isn't grayed out, then it is in AHCI mode. Check the speeds with AS-SSD also, if you want.
