Help me please I just don't know what to do!

Hello everybody...

I have to ask advice .... should I upgrade ? and if so to what ?

I'm currently running

CPU : i7 965 extreme
MB : asus rampage iii extreme
RAM : Corsair Memory Dominator GT 12GB DDR3 2000 Mhz CAS 9 DHX XMP
GRAPHICS : gainward nvidia gtx 590
OS HD : ocz vertex 2 120gb
HD 2 : wd velociraptor 300 gb
HD 3 : 2 x 1tb in raid 0
HEATSINK : corsair h50 water cooling
CASE : Silverstone SST-FT02B-W case

I rushed into this whilst out in Afghanistan Jan 2011 buying parts online ready to build once I returned home from the tour. This time I want to get it right .... all I want to upgrade is my CPU, Motherboard, RAM and heatsink.
I have been looking at several options and have narrowed it down to :
CPU : Intel Core i7 3770K,1155, Ivy Bridge
MB : Asus Sabertooth Z77

however what memory should I get and how much ?
and what Heat sink?

All your help would be appreciated

Dave

what memory doesn't really matter that, just get a decent brand and don't over pay.

how much, 8GB is kind of an OCN standard

heatsink, whats the budget?

You'll be fine with 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 or above, for memory. Any reputable brand.
As for a cooler, how much cooling performance do you need?

That memory will work just fine.
I can't really comment on whether the heatsink will fit or not, but it's a good cooler.

Will I see considerable differences from my last setup?
Looking at your current setup, I wouldn't upgrade until Haswell maybe even Broadwell. The i7-965 is still plenty powerful. 590 is also more than enough. Wait for GTX 700 series or HD 8000 series. Waste of money in my opinion to move to Ivy Bridge

I just recently started that. It's a lot to take in at first, but it becomes simple pretty quickly. There are a few really nice guides for overclocking here on OCN. Also something that helped me was finding people with similar processors, and seeing what they used with results.
