Looking for best deal for new laptop

Thread Starter
Hey all -

So I recently build a pretty sweet rig for gaming and class work (comp sci major)..gtx 670, ssd, intel i5 3570k ivy bridge 3.4 ghz, 8 gb ram..

However, in the mean time my laptop has crapped out on me.. battery completely dead, frequent crashes.. anyways I could replace the battery and reload the OS but the the laptops old and I don't think its even worth shelling out the ~60-80 $$$ to replace the battery when the laptop probably isnt worth more than $300.

That being said I could use a laptop for doing homework in class biggrin.gif and just the mobility of it. I'm only looking for something that has a respectable battery length and can run word/itunes/email/some programming (not cad or anything heavy). I don't need a ton of storage on it either. As I have my desktop I am not intending to game on it or anything.

I thinking a loose budget of around $400. Probably most important is the battery length. I don't need windows 8 so if I can get a better deal w/ windows 7 I would definitely jump at that. Will I find some good deals on black friday/cyber monday? Does anyone have some suggestions for what to look at? Previous laptop was an asus.

Thanks!!

The Asus X501A also offers stellar battery life in my experience, with its 6 cell battery. I was able to get 5 hours 27 minutes from a single charge with medium usage. With heavy usage, such as streaming music from Spotify and playing Minecraft whilst opening tabs and handling documents, 2 hours are cut from that figure. Charging is also surprisingly fast

There are certainly some compile jobs I wouldn't attempt on Atom or Brazos/Zacate processors, at least not if I want to keep my sanity. rolleyes.gif
