Seasonic PS worth buying?

Hey everyone, these newegg november deals are going to kill my bank account tongue.gif

Anyway I currently have Rosewill BRONZE Series RBR1000-M 1000W as my power supply for my main rig you see in my sig. I see this SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular going for $99 on Newegg.

Just looking for some input on
1. If it will still be able to run my PC at what it is now with everything I have in it.
2. If it is even worth getting.
I would probably be able to sell my old PS for around the same price, so I'm not worried about that.

You could run your rig on a good 600w PSU so 750 is more than enough power.

Is it worth the upgrade? With the lower wattage, you will sit in the 50%-75% while gaming so your PSU will be much more efficient especially with a gold rate PSU. Not to mention that PSU is also much better and more reliable than your current one. I personally don't think it's really "worth" upgrading but if you want to make your system more efficient then sure.

If you old PSU is a couple years old already then I would probably do it. If you just bought it within the past 6-10 months, I would not do it myself.

I currently have a 1200w PSU that I no longer need and I have been debating whether to sell it for $100 less than I paid for it to buy a more efficient PSU myself but I keep telling myself that it's probably not even worth the hassle.

I feel that it's worth the upgrade, yes.  It would be a huge upgrade.

However, your rig really only needs a quality-made 450W power supply:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_670_2_and_3way_sli_review,4.html

With one GTX 670 under full load in their system, their PSU pulled 279W from the wall outlet.  Their CPU was idling, so let's add about 200W for your CPU (this is unrealistic, but it's for good measure).  Now this means that the PSU would be pulling 479W from the wall outlet if both the GTX 670 and the CPU were simultaneously under maximum load.  So, if the PSU is 85% efficient while pulling 479W from the wall, then this would mean the system is pulling 407W from the PSU.

Therefore, you'd still have excessively extreme overkill.

On PSU Efficiency

PSU "50% Load" Myth

These articles together show that a quality-made 450W powe supply would be the best for your system in terms of maximizing PSU efficiency with what you have in it right now.  This is because the wattage rating of a quality-made PSU (or rather, any truly recommendable PSU) is what the PSU is capable of delivering continuously, or "24/7".

yes it will be plenty of power for your setup but the only difference is that the seasonic one is slightly more efficient but i dont think it is worth going through the hassle to get the new one

As TwoCables stated, only a 450 watt PSU is needed for your rig, but whether purchasing such a unit is worth it to you is another matter. The 750 watt Seasonic is not really worth the buy in this case.

Although, it would be worth it if you wanted to have three GTX 680s:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_680_3_way_sli_review,4.htmlhttp://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_680_3_way_sli_review,4.html

Three GTX 680s under full load caused their PSU to pull 649W from the wall outlet.  Their CPU was idling, so let's add 200W again which makes the PSU pulling 849W from the wall outlet if both the CPU and the 680s are under full load simultaneously.  If the PSU is 85% efficient while pulling 849W from the wall, then that would mean the system is pulling 722W from the PSU.  So, a quality-made 750W power supply would be an excellent choice in this example.

Ok guys, thanks a ton for the info. Power supplies are the one thing I'm not all that knowledgeable on, but this helps a ton. Never knew my system is really using that little wattage. thumb.gif

I bought that PSU on the first day of the sale for my build thats coming together now. I havn't tested it yet but its really nice. Comes in a velvet bag! All the cables have a velcro pouch and the unit itself just feels SOLID. I had a bit of a geek-out.
