OverClocking Problem With MSI 6870

Yeah i wanna Overclock my 6870 but if i put it past 950mhz core clock or 1150mhz memory clock every time i run a game to put it into 3D Mode the card has a OC failure... Do i need to increase the voltage and if i do can someone tell me a safe voltage. (BTW im using msi afterburner - i disabled catalyst overclocking)

Yes, you will need to up volts for stability and max volts would be 1.35v.

hey , i have a 6870 too, i use msi afterburner and it works wonders. i have mt core voltage at: 1.243v , my core clock at: 1,000 MHz, my memory clock at: 1102 MHz , i vary my fan speed between 50% - 100%. 50% for everything except gaming, 100% for gaming. i was seeing people get to 1 GHz on this card, but i wasn't able to for the longest time(guess i was scary of the voltage bump) i didn't want to burn anything up. right now i have my card set at 50% fan and my temp is a steady 52c , i don;t think that's bad at all. just my 2 cent's , good luck :thumb

what are your fan settings, what's your temps, does your 6870 have one fan or two, how is the ventalation in your case, and make sure you have the latest version of msi afterburner thumb.gif, sorry i didn't get back sooner sadsmiley.gif

my fan settings are on auto and only reach what the graphics card is supposed to reach: 70-75 degrees. + i have 1 fan
its not the heat thats the issue because the crashes happen as soon as the card has to put in any effort on 3d mode

with msi afterburner you set all your settings then save them as one of the profiles on the bottom (profile , 1-5), also on the bottom is fan speed, don't use auto, set it manually to 100%, (later when your truly stable you should be able to lower your fan to an acceptable level for regular usage, while gaming though always set it to 100%) you have to monitor the temp of the card (remember , more voltage= more heat, your trying to find the sweet spot) , and write down what the temps are when it's at idle and when your doing stuff(under load). take your voltage up to 1.250. also, let me know what 6870 you have and what version of catalyst you have. it seems as though your stable at idle but not under load, which means your very close, just not there yet. thumb.gif
