Why? Just spend about 30 minutes in each time frame with one assassination in each and you'd be golden. You don't need to get into all the side quests.
Had I been the editor of Lord of the Rings there would have been one movie about 3 hours long...maybe less. There was so much pointless crap that added nothing and did not relate to the main plot line of the ring. It was, in my opinion, one of the worst movie series I've seen. I've heard the books are even worse with even more sub-plots...I don't really understand how any one can like them. A little background is nice, but Lord of the Rings goes into minute detail on far too much.
