A6-5400K + Radeon HD 7450M /w only 3 connectors = 3 Monitor Support?

Thread Starter
So today at work someone inquired about a desktop(HP Pavilion p7-1418 ), and for once in my work life someone asked me an enthusiast-like question, and I couldn't even answer it. frown.gif

The question is whether or not 3 monitors (not eyefinity), could be setup on this desktop.

It has an A6-5400K APU and an HD 7450M. The specs say it has 3 connectors, 2x HDMI and 1 DVI. I presume 3 connections are divided between the APU and 7450M.

Would the hybrid crossfire make the APU's video connector unusable? If so, is there a way to disable hybrid crossfire without mods to get the APU to output the 3rd monitor?

These are the complete specs of that computer:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03513396#N401

The 7450 on it only has 2 video-out so you can only use two monitors at a time. The mobo also has a vga and dvi attached but they are unusable if you are using the video-out ports of the graphisccard. Note that with "2 hdmi" they meant one out and one in, that means probably that there is a hauppage card in the computer. You're fellow will only be able to hook up 3 monitors if he buys a real 5450 (not hp) and takes the 7450 out.

Edit: Disabling dual graphics won't solve the problem, but to do that right click the desktop, enter ccc, click "games", then click crossfire and then disable it.

Thankyou kind sir, I didn't realize there was a more detailed specs page that you linked. So are integrated graphics always disabled when dedicated cards are used? And if not, is it disabled by the CPU or motherboard?

Just a heads up to anyone else reading this, you need to get a 5450, (or any recent AMD card) with a display port + a display port capable monitor or active adapter in order to run the third monitor.

It should be in crossfire mode with the apu since the 7450 is just a rebranded 6450. The integrated graphics gets disabled when installing a 5450 because that card is not xfire compatible with an APU.

My question was if integrated graphics are ALWAYS disabled on ALL motherboards or CPUs, or if it is just something some mothersboards or CPUs do. Also xfire compatibility shouldn't have anything to do with disabling the video output on the integrated graphics as you can easily plug in multiple AMD or Nvidia cards not in cfx/sli and have them all output properly.

No, why should it be disabled? It wasn't disabled when he bought the pc.
