Little diagram on what I might do to keep the PSU on the bottom and still have the flipped mb.



Also finished painting the DVD drives, needless to say they don't look so great. I would post some pictures, but this cheapo camera refuses to connect to my computer.

I'm just going to put them aside for now and focus on the actual case. I'll come back to them towards the end once I figure out what to do.


This is how I plan on sleeving my cables with paracord. Will be doing extensions only for now, since I plan on doing a full sleeving once I can afford MDPC sleeving.


24 pin extension


8 pin extension + Sata power cable + 6 pin VGA cable

These plus the fan cables and front cables in white or black paracord as well.

Update:


DVD drives painted black. Will be sanding these back down and repainting them later on.


Started on my GPU with cleaning out the pcb.


Thermal paste left on heatsink.


Removed the pci slot panel on my gpu and my wireless internet card. Will be painting these white.


Cleaned up the fan.


Removed the thermal paste off the gpu.


Decided to remove the EVGA stickers from the shroud, but man did they leave a mess.


Luckily, Arctic Cleaner 1 works right through that stuff and it came off in no time.


And a little GeForce logo that was hiding under an EVGA sticker.

I had planned to paint some of the shroud white, but I like how it looks now. I'll still keep the pci panels white.

Gpu put back together.



Oh, also finished up with the fans for now. Fan on the controller still has clear blades and the front fan does not have LEDs. All that is left for the fans is to changing the LEDS from red to blue for the cpu fan and sleeve all the fans once I get my paracord and heatshrink.

Got some stuff in the mail today:



Paracord for sleeving from ParacordPLanet


Connectors and wiring from FrozenCPU.com


All the connectors I bought and some LEDs.


And the wiring. I bought different colors, even though there is no bleed through with paracord, so that I can create my patterns and see if I like them before I do heatshrinkless sleeving.


Now I just need to wait for my MDPC stuff to arrive so I can get the pins and start wiring my extensions.

Got to work on cutting the mb tray and back panel:


Right before I tape it up for cutting.



Tapped up and ready to go.


Psu back panel. Had a little mishap with this one due to the thin metal strip i had to cut. Fortunately this will be covered up.


Bottom of the mb tray seperated.


Rest of the back panel. Rough edge will be covered

Rough mock-up of the case put back together. Once I get the rivets from MDPC, I'll be putting it back together and start working on some other things I have planned to make the case look more pleasing.

I apologize for the terrible pictures. For the rest of them I'll work on getting some better lighting and fix my camera up accordingly.

UPDATE:

Got a little package in the mail today from Nils.


Gotta love Nils drawings.


White rivets, male and female pin connectors, pre-cut black heatshrink, black sata heatshrink, and bonus orange and green mdpc sleeving.

Now that I have the rivets I can begin to put the case back together, but first:


I'm going to place a 200mm intake fan here in the front, so I'll have to do a little cutting.


This piece from the hot-swappable bays will have to go.


So that this can fit.


After making the cuts I realized that the fan still would not fit between the front cover and panel. So I decided to cut out a hole here and place the fan on the inside of the case, rather than between the cover and panel.



Back panel finally put back together.


And here is the case all riveted back up.


Front of the case, you can see the 200mm hole I cut for the fan.


And the back.

While putting the side panels back on it seems that miss-measured the back panel and now its shorter than before and now the side panels won't slide completely in. I'll have to either go back and increase the height somehow, or cut the panels to fit.

That aside, now that I have all the materials I need for sleeving I'm going to start this weekend and see what I can do.

After working all night I was able to finally finish making the wires for my 24 pin ext. I've done wiring before, but man were these a pain to do without the right crimper.


And my first wire sleeved. I finished 2 others before calling it quits for the night.

Update:

Two cut fingers on my left hand and two burnt fingers on my right hand later I get this:



Still have to do the other 12 cables. The wires are already cut, just need to be crimped and then sleeved. Thankfully I will be using the oem wires for the other cables instead of making my own, which should cut down on time and make this easier on myself.

Update:

Got a suprise package in the mail today:


I had bought another GTX 460 768mb card this summer to run in sli with my current card. Unfortunately it was DOA but I hadn't opened it until recently which put it past rma date with whom I bought it from. So I sent it in to Galaxy to get it replaced two weeks ago and haven't heard from them since.

Turns out they had already got it and sent me a new card:



Not only is this GTX560 brand new and not refurbished, but it also has higher vram than my current card and performs better than my single setup right now. I would have liked to have had another 460 for sli, but I think I will benefit more from the vram since I game on 1920x1080.

I also fixed up the case so now the side panels fit and will be finishing up cables this weekend.



Test fit with the motherboard.


Graphics card in.


Power supply put in.


And wired up so I can use it.

After putting everything in place I was able to check the lengths need for the rest of the cables that I will be sleeving.

I'm going to be ordering a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter for my hdd and my ssd will be attached to either the back of the mb tray or inside a psu cover I'm thinking of making. The cover will hide all the excess wire and make the bottom look cleaner. I want to also make a cover for the front bays and put an OCN logo there. And lastly, I was thinking of making a mb armor out of acrylic and either painting it black or white.

Moving things along:


Sleeved all the fans, except the CPU fan, which I'll be shortening the cable first then sleeving.


Sleeved the front panel connectors and LEDs.


Top two 120mm fans installed.


Front 200mm fan installed.


Painted PCI slot brackets for the graphics card and wireless card.


Fans with the LEDs on at night.


Things left to do:
  • Cut and sleeve cpu fan
  • Make graphics card power connectors and sleeve them
  • Make sata power cables and sleeve them
  • Make PSU cover and 5.25" bay cover
  • Cut out window in side panel and put acrylic in.

I might add some more stuff in as I go, but I feel like I'm coming close to the end here.
