Some Fan Questions.

Thread Starter
Hey

I Have a couple questions about fans while I'm on the final stages of planning my first build. I Know I have made a lot of help threads, but you guys are the smartest and most knowledgeable. I Remember the reason why I joined this site was because the people at Fry's know nothing compared to you guys.

Anyway. Here they are.

1) I am looking for some good fans to put on a h100i. I would like fans that are nice and strong for when I need my computer to stay cool, but can be turned down to silent (below 20 db) with a fan controller. I was looking at the Corsair SP high performance or some Gentle Typhoon AP 15's. Or Nf-f12's. Any Comments or suggestions?

2) I Need Some good 140mm case fans that looks nice. The Cougar Vortex fans are too orange for me. I Was thinking of going with some PK-3's as they look nice. Any Comments?

3) I Might look to do water cooling in the future, as I greatly enjoy overclocking. While I'm making this thread, I Might as well ask, What would be some good 140mm fans (I'm using a switch 810) for radiators?

4) Looking For a good fan controller. Aesthetics do matter. 5 channel 30 W minimum. If you can't recommend a model, can you atleast recommend a brand?

1) The AP-15's are probably the most popular fans for the H100 (Will probably be the same for the H100i). I've seen some people say that they do tend to get loud at 12v, but with a fan controller it'll be no problem. I'll also recommend the COUGAR CF-V14H as well. I think they have some problems being mounted horizontally before, but I think they fixed it. The bgears b-Blaster. They are loud at 12v, but the fan controller will fix that.

2) I think there are a couple of 140mm fan roundups on other websites you can check out. I think Tator Tot is even doing one. But from what I've read the PK-3's are really good for a case fan.

3) Don't know anything about this. Sorry.

4) Lamptron is considered the best when it comes to fan controllers. Scythe also makes good products. Lamptron Fan Controller FC8 is a really good one with 8 channels and max 30W. The Scythe Kaze Master Pro 6 Channel is also a food choice. Both look very nice and get the job done!

Hope I helped!

i would say noctua all the way, they are a bit expensive but they got a really long life time and a good oil bearing so they do not get loud with time smile.gif

1. Don't for the love of Darwin throw the new Corsair fans on a fan controller. Listen

AP-15s are pretty good and also end up coming out on top as far as sound is concerned in all the roundups I've seen. They push some decent air as well and have a nice static pressure too. If you're interested in aesthetics at all, which it seems that you are, then Noctua is out the door.

2. The best 140mm fan I know of is the TY-140 however they're not very pretty to look at and the TY-147(a black and white version) should be coming out shortly. They use 120mm fan holes but since you're using a Switch, it won't matter. I admit that I know nothing about the PK-3 though. And before anyone says anything, I know best in a fan is relative however the TY-140 is known to be very quiet but can also push some good air, exactly what OP is looking for.

3. As I recently learned, it depends on the rad. See here

4. I know Lamptron has some good ones and I liked my NZXT Sentry Mix 2. Don't know about many others however be careful when looking into Lamptron controllers, G-Vans has been selling knock off garbage that looks exactly the same.
