Hi all been out of the loop for a while dug out my old gaming rig blew off the dust and now IM planning on installing windows,on it again and doing some gaming , browsing , general stuff but a,lot has changed in 4 years and IM wondering my rig can still cope with modern programmes?

Spec is xfx 790l sli ultra motherboard , q9450 , 4GB 1333 ddr3 xms3 , I used to have a 8800 ultra but my bro went to uni and I gave it to him so I guess I'll never see that again lol. So can this system still cut it ? And can I get a gpu for around £100 for some gaming ?

you would be able to play a lot of things on that system, but when it comes to really really heavy games like BF3 or Metro 2033, you wont be able to pull max fps on max settings. as for the GPU, i would look at spending a little bit more and getting a Geforce GTX 650Ti

i wouldnt suggest a 7770 over a 650Ti, the 650ti performs much better in most games, for only a bit more.

With a 100gbp budget, I would be looking for a used card. Are you opposed to doing that ?

Well I don't really have a budget I would just like to spend £100 but 150 is ok too IM just getting my head around new hour numbers after bring away from new technology for 3 years with the birth of my daughter. Could any body also tell me which modern CPU would my q9450 match ?

your Q9450 would be around an i3 2100 or a Phenom ii X4 955/965BE when it comes to gaming.

Hmmmm yes IM in two minds now weather to just use this old rig for another year with a,overclock or just,upgrade now,? I remember this rig being awesome when I put it together 4 years ago have programmes changed that much that it can't cope ? I doubt it but IM also wondering if there would be a,massive difference in performance from my q9450 to say a i5 ? My board has pcie 2.0 I see 3.0 is out so would my board kind of slow down a modern gpu?

Decided to use the rig until summer and then just build a new system so I decided on a gtx 660 ti but noticed this is a pcie 3 card like everything else out there and my board only has pcie 2 is this a problem ?
