[Joystiq] Xbox 360 USB data storage limit doubled to 32GB

Quote:
The recent Xbox 360 dashboard update for Fall 2012 quietly increased the flash drive storage capacity from the 16GB implemented in 2010 to 32GB.
Quote:
.....this the week of the update, we just wanted to make sure this wasn't a glitch that would be reversed at a later date.....
Quote:
.....a Microsoft spokesperson told us, "Yes. The more our customers use their profile and download digital content, the larger the file size necessary to store that content and move it between consoles gets. Therefore we increased the size of the memory to enable our customers to take more of their Xbox profile with them on the go."....
Source

Microsoft is no longer fool us, since their confirmed the storage limit change as intentional and explained its purpose in a statement as above!

WHOOOO!

What's the point of having a limit at all?

My guess would be so that you can't use a usb hard drive, thus forcing people to by their overpriced proprietary one

Proprietary is right! I remember cracking open the original 360 drives and that was easy, but the new slim drives god I honestly couldn't get it open without causing some damage to the casing. I suppose there are proper tools out there, but man what a PITA they are being just to prevent me from using my own drives.

Never knew you could buy an aftermarket enclosure for that cheap, that's awesome.

xbox won't see it as a hard drive......it'll only see it as a 32gb external........you'll have to use a hack which sort of defies the point

I think the last few posts are referring to installing a compatible xbox360 sata drive into the xbox slim. You don't need to 'crack' open in the xbox360 slim, it has an access port for it and it will see the full drive size as long as it's one of the few compatible sata xbox360 drives.
