ASIC Quality

Thread Starter
Just digging trough a few old posts came across this ASIC quality feature.
Is lower or higher better? What's the story?

Higher is better.

The ASIC quality attempts to measure the quality of a GPU in terms of overall functionality and presence of defects.

When GPUs are manufactured, they are tested for defects in a process known as 'binning'. The best GPUs that pass every test end up in the best graphics cards (GK104 used in GTX 680). Slightly inferior GPUs end up in graphics cards lower in a product stack (GK104 in GTX 670 or GTX 660 Ti). These GPUs often have some flaw or defect, but are still salvageable after disabling part of the GPU. For instance, the GK104 used in the GTX 670 has an entire SMX block disabled.

No, the general concept of binning remains the same regardless of brand.

It doesn't mean much IMHO. My ASIC quality is reported as 100% but my 680 is unstable at stock clocks. It will only make it through a Haven run about 60% at the time at stock clocks.

Whereas my 670 will do 1333mhz core which is really quite good and that is what an ASIC score of 75%

Yeah, ASIC quality is rather meaningless. The true indicator of quality is the max stable OC of your particular GPU.
