I'd say HD 7850 2GB. If you can score a used GTX 570 though, less than $185 of pure sweet deal. It's what I did smile.gif

the best card you can get for less than 250 is HD 7870. there is no contest with GTX 660 which loses at stock and when both cards are overclocked the HD 7870 pulls ahead even further because of better performance scaling due to a full 256 bit memory system and 32 ROPs. the Gigabyte HD 7870 is one of the quietest and coolest HD 7870s. will easily keep temps below 60c in games.

I got my 7950 for 270$, this card can have the gtx680 performance and beyond when overclocked. Much future proof card than the 7850.

It is this model:

I am sure you can find it at cheaper price elsewhere. Also the card came with 3 games. Quite hard to beat as a deal!

the OP's CPU is a bit too weak. In fact an overclock to 3.2 Ghz is really required not to bottleneck a HD 7800 series card.

OP - if you are still running the 1680x1050 monitor, maybe the best thing to do would be to upgrade to 1900x1080?
The larger screens really help with immersion into the game. If you dont' play games with PhysX I'd get the 7870 - the Gigabyte model mentioned by Raghu78 is a great one.

I'd consider OC'ing your cpu as well - it will help in games like Skyrim, Civilization, etc.

Cheers thumb.gif

any card from the 200~250$ range would be bottlenecked by your cpu though, but if you can, try to get a used 570 or just get a 7850.

I say try for a 7950 they are under 300 with rebates. Yes your cpu will bottleneck it but i can assume you will want to upgrade in the future and with the 7950 you will be ready.
