Possibly moving to SLI 680's

Thread Starter
Hey all ...

I currently have my rig running pretty well ...

My stats are in my sig rig but here is a quick run down

2500K @ 4.6 (was at 4.8 but was testing something)
8gb @ 1600mhz
P67 Evo
TX650W
GTX 680 ...

I recently upgraded my monitor to a 1200P screen and have noticed while 90% of games run perfectly for my needs ... Borderlands 2 (after the last update) has started lagging where it never did it before and there are a few hickups in Stalker CoP and Metro 2033 ...

My card isnt a great OC'er the core is @ 1200 with the memory upped by +80 in EVGA Precision

What is the benefits from moving SLI with my current setup ... is it worth it or should I hold out and see what happens in the next few months ... what PSU will I need for dual 680's ? ...

All information would be greatly appreciated...
Regards.

I would just wait for the next gen. If you decide to do it, I would recommend at least an 800w PSU for overclocking headroom, although 750w would probably be fine.

If they actually do release Q1 of 2013, it may not be a bad idea to wait. The price would also drop some on the 680's though and 680 sli will destroy anything on a single 1200p screen. If the prices drop you would of course recoup less when selling your current 680. Your current PSU would be sufficient for a 680 sli setup as well, there is no need to upgrade it. I ran sli 480's on an HX750 with absolutely no issues (xfire 6970's as well) and I don't know that any single card pulls significantly more juice than those 480's do. Metro is gonna choke out just about any card, but I can't imagine you getting bad performance in BL2. My 680 does a great job. You have to keep in mind that the drivers on these Kepler cards are still relatively new and will only continue to improve. Personally I'd back down my AA just a touch and wait for drivers to improve and if you're still unhappy sli those puppies up when the price drops.
