Framerate randomly locks at 40 fps in World of Warcraft and I need to restart the game to "unlock" it

Thread Starter
I've been having a problem for some time now in World of Warcraft, where my framerate randomly locks at 40 fps. It can happen as soon as I launch the game, or after hours of gameplay. On a long playing session, it usually happens atleast once. It also happens with both vsync on or off and triple buffering on or off. I usually run the game at 60 fps with vsync on and over 100 fps with vsync off.

When it happens, I get bad stuttering even with vsync and triple buffering disabled, which I find strange since 40 fps should be acceptable. In my case, 40 fps makes the game unplayable and it actually feels like 5-10 fps and I can't even steer the character properly so something is definitely wrong. It doesn't happen in other games.

It was the same on previous Nvidia drivers, and I made sure to remove the old driver completely before installing the one I have now, which is the latest stable one to date. The settings for WoW in Nvidia control panel are default and I select the settings to let the application control. Changing the power management to high performance for WoW doesn't help. I run the 64-bit WoW client.

Another thing I find very stange is that when the framerate is locked, it doesn't even help to reduce the ingame graphics settings to minimum. It's still locked regardless.

Nothing in my system have too high temps, I've been monitoring everything possible on high load.

System (BIOS, drivers and software up to date):

Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Intel i7 3960X overclocked to 4.3GHz
4x4GB Corsair Dominator 2133MHz quad channel
2x EVGA GTX 580 Classified 3GB in SLI
2x Intel 520 SSDs holding OS and installed software (including WoW)
1000W Seasonic Platinum PSU
Windows 8 64-bit UEFI mode install

Only thing i can guess right off is SLI and Win 8. That's the Only 2 issues that i see, i got Win 7 and Gtx 580 and i get 150+ FPS. In SW its 90-110 and if it's packed, 70+. My specs in Sig.

WoW never liked SLI or CF from what i know, MoP might of fixed it, idk. and Win 8 Just came out, so Drivers and Updates have not been released to Stabilize the new OS.

You could also try a Fresh install of WoW and Drivers. But depending on your Internet speed, that may end up a last resort lol

Just curious, mind to post the Temps of your GPU and CPU?
