[EW] Intel cuts training, delays 14nm, raises fears for Ireland. - Page 5

It's not so much a "no incentive due to competition" situation as a soft market... 1272 is just getting pushed back a few months because if Intel doesn't see chips, they don't want to spend money and are taking care of that in a number of ways to make the gross income look better, sadly sending the Irish home earlier than expected is one of them.

No one's happy AMD is hurting. All it means is less competitive pricing which is bad for everyone except Intel. I am personally downgrading from my X79/i7 to either a FX4300/970 or A10/A75 system. I'm just stating what I believe is happening. AMD has announced themselves that they are no longer competing with Intel so why would they continue to innovate fast when they could milk the hell out of 22nm chips.

Don't whine about competition when you support and buy from the company that illegally depleted it's competition.

Maybe if apple uses arm I it's next gen macs intel will see more competition?
Yeah I doubt this has much to do with AMD either.

CPUs are just so far beyond being "fast enough" for the average consumer, that there's very little reason to upgrade outside of the enthusiast market. My brother is perfectly happy web browsing and watching movies and gaming on his 5+year old C2Q machine...

I agree that unless/until consoles take a BIG step forward, there won't really be much demand for faster and faster consumer CPUs.

Everyone's blaming AMD when Intel clearly stated that this is as a result of "slow-down in demand." A slow-down that applies to all x86 processor manufacturers for laptops/desktops/tablets, which I don't think necessarily has anything to do with performance.

...and everyone's blaming AMD. doh.gif

Where is ARM in this?

Do you think a company would say, "we are not doing this because frankly we control the market and see no reason to innovate?"

Yeah; I'm a bit of an Intel fanboy, but seeing AMD go out of high end computing is pretty sad. This will do nothing but screw things up.

Maybe we'll have another company come in and make some progress.
