[EW] Intel cuts training, delays 14nm, raises fears for Ireland. - Page 7

Quote:
The paper reports that a 'slowdown in demand has prompted Intel to delay the introduction of 1272 (14nm) manufacturing to its Irish subsidiary by six months.

Is it possible we might be interpreting this wrong as it concerns the timing of overall 14nm manufacturing? Intel had three 22nm foundries that all went online at once, so surely Ireland isn't the only 14nm one. Maybe 14nm isn't delayed outright, just at this one factory.

Haven't you heard, desktop sales declining everywhere (some may even say declining FAST) .. why would a business continue or even ramp up production, operations and development in a category bleeding out and declining fast.

Tough times ahead for desktops for sure.

Ok. Lemme try again. There's more money to be made in other directions. Like tabs. No use building a bigger engine if the market says you can just make the car smaller.

With the slow rate at which software is taking up the extra performance CPU's can and do offer, I think you should in most cases be safe for the next 3 years..

Intel has plenty competition. They have to compete in an increasingly mobile world and their current products are not up to par in that space as of the present.
