IBM basically created the desktop, they also still own a mass amount of IT and I assume get money for it. If they cared about the desktop business, you'd see a lot more R&D put into it. Not only that, I doubt Intel would be the top dog if IBM tried to play the game. I just don't see them caring, with their net worth far beyond MS, Intel, or AMD why? They rock what they do, incredibly well too.

They did compete with intel, after intel started moving into IBMs territory. x86 now dominates those areas too(workstation and servers).

I use Intel in my PC, but my GPU and those I purchased for all the workstations at the office are all from AMD . AMDs stock is definitely on the lower end of where it has been though. To be fair it could be a deal if you have faith.
Here are some good articles on the competition and where AMD really stands in the market at the moment if anyone is interested. I weeded through all of the crappy two paragraph articles that come up when looking for decent information.

I have to admit,for the average customer, AMD's APU's are nothing but a good thing.

Its a shame most people want a tablet ect now
