Piledriver 8350 question - Page 2

The basics are pretty simple. I'm not good, either, but I can do basics.

1) Go into your BIOS
2) Find your multiplier and FSB speeds
3) Increase VCore to the max you would want it at (1.45v isn't a bad 24/7 voltage)
4) Increase your multiplier to get a pretty CPU speed
5) Boot up
6) Run Prime95 to confirm it's stable
7a) If stable, go to Step 4
7b) If not stable, either increase VCore or reduce your multiplier by one setting. Confirm stability with P95 Repeat until P95 stable.

I increase my multiplier/fsb speeds, stress, then if that's not stable increase voltage. If you increase voltage first, you're just making more effort for yourself to go back and decrease the vcore to get it as low as possible.

I hate to hijack the thread here for a few monents. But how much benfit does the Turbo actually give? I myself haven ever fiddled around with this.

Is it a separate overclock you need to find and stabilize after your regular overclock? Or do the turbo numbers automatically generate based on your reg. OC? What part does this play in terms of stabillity of the system as a whole? I am doing all my reading before taking the jump from my PhenomII to an FX8350/20.

I can walk you through it, it's really easy on that board. We can do a small overclock like 4.3 ghz at 1.38v.

I kinda do that, and I still do that normally....but the way I listed is nice for a few reasons. It's pretty easy to follow, so there are no judgement calls. It's also faster to find your CPU's wall. Also, once you find the max OC at the max vcore you're comfortable with you can determine how closely you want to toe that line. Are you running 4.7GHz @ 1.45Vcore but want to reduce voltage? Well, start at 4.5GHz and 1.35Vcore and go from there. Plus, setting my MAX vcore is nice because I'm no longer tempted to continue pushing vcore.
