The 8+2 VRM phases for 1 thing. Possibly the only thing other than a possible difference in slot lay out? If you arent' looking to OC, I have to agree the Extreme is actually a decent choice. I chose one for my brother's machine.

dyou just purchased your cpu a few days ago so it's best to stick with it. get the asrock 990FX board. although the power phases in numbers isn't that impressive, it does have beefier vrm's so even a phenom II x6 at max overclocks would be more than enough for it. no sense of getting a much more expensive board. it would be just a waste and not worth the money imho
I never mentioned Intel and I don't' see what is a thing of the past? The Extreme 4 is still a new board and AMDs CPU compatibility is still pretty decent. Intel is getting better about but, unless the new generation of chips supports 1155 they have yet platform to rival LGA775's "forward compatibility" then again chips are getting so powerful today forwards compatibility isn't so much of an issue unless you "have to" upgrade.
