Super Silent Air idea

Thread Starter
So I plan on upgrading my computer case so I can aim towards a dead silent pc..or as close as i can come. My computer right now is pretty quiet, but theres always room for improvment.

My choices for cases are the antec p180b or lian-li pc-7b plus.

Both would be upgraded to use these Scythe s-flex 800rpm/8db fans.

And I plan on upgrading my HSf to the Noctua NH-U12F , it too is like 8db.

And lastely I will probably have to upgrade my gpu fan to the zalman, but that is last on the list. I could always just strap on a scythe fan to what I have now.

With the p180b I get the thicker walls and whatnot, but with the lian-li I get a more direct line of air flow, PLUS the lian-li weigh like a few lbs vs. the p180b lots of lbs.

Im looking for opinions on this...thanks.

You could always use a fan controller too.

I already use fan controllers...

The reason why i choose those fans is that they rock 8db, I want to find that noctua fan on its own But I cant.

If I could find a 120mm fan that will do 8db with a fan controller I am open to that also.

Don't forget that one company's 8dB is different from another company's. There is no standardization to fan noise measurement. In addition, an 8dB squeel is more noticable than an 8dB wooosh sound. A fan I would definitely recommend is Yate Loon Real Silent. They are EXACTLY the same as the Nexus Real Silent fans.... expect that the YL run at 1350RPM while the Nexus run at 1000RPM. Just reduce the voltage and you have the same fan. However, the YL are $3 each while the Scythe and Nexus are $12-20 each.

I would get the Lian Li case and remove their sound padding. I then add my own sound proofing. I use this stuff on my case: 3-Layer Sonic Barrier
Once again...

The French article in post #3 may be extremely helpful.

I ended up ordering the lian case and 2 scythe's, people in the reviews (which is what I was going off vs. reviews) said the fans were inaudible.

I know the p180 would have been dead silent, but after I thought out the weight vs. complete silence I decided for weight. I still plan on getting at least a ninja or a noctua in about a month.

Im going to look into the sound proofing material, but I think the vid card port on the case will cancel that out. At which point I might rip off the blower on my masscool and just stick a 120mm aiming at it.

Thanks guys.
