Because you won't be overclocking, I would go with that 7970 Black Edition. Both at stock, the 7970 is ~15% faster than the 7950. 15% is worth $100 to me but for you it may not be. That will, ultimately, be up to you to decide thumb.gif

The MSI R7950 Twin Frozr is also a great choice and will be able to execute the games you listed at 1920x1080 fluidly.
7950 is more than enough for almost any game for 1080p@60hz - you may need to turn down AA or turn off HBAO in a few intensive games - youre ok with cpu overclocking but not gpu?

Even if its light overclocking most 7970s can hit 1050mhz rather easily from 926mhz, im sure 7950s are the same.

If you were trying to push 120hz then 7950s should still be ok for the most part..

But he's not overclocking so in this case 7970 pre OC'd like the XFX or the GB I linked are the best cards, the difference between 880 7950 and 1k 7970 is worth the extra cash if his rule is to never OC a gpu.

Why not save the extra money and get a 7950 and OC it past that of a stock 7970 OC card.....? Its so simple and easy to do and you save money. Your not going to kill the life of your card by doing so as long as you stay within safe ranges either. My 7950 kills alot of 7970's.

the reference 7950 is a bit gimped unlike 6950.
if you are going for a non-reference 7950, i rather go and get a ref 7970.

yeah. in fact stock voltage overclocking in AMD CCC is very safe. the MSI HD 7950 OC twin frozr easily overclocks to 1.05 Ghz. That enough to max out any game at 1080p. thumb.gif

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the feedback so far. I have ruined too many cards (two in total) by overclocking them, and I didn't boots the clocks by much (between 50MHz-150MHz). One was an old 8800GT and the other was an old 4850 that was made for OC'ing. In terms of CPUs I have had my Phenom 940 black @ between 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz for the last 3 years and its has been the most stable thing in my build(s) EVER.

Like I said, I don't mind paying the extra $$$ for a higher tier card. The problem is that if I buy the 7950, I don't want to then feel like I should've bought the 7970. Its like if you were to own a Porsche 911 Carrera and then a 911 Turbo pulls up next to you (and then makes you feel inadequate as a man). The other thing is that I've never has a top tier card...EVER.

Right now I am leaning towards a XFX 7970 Black Edition (the Double D version). It's only $429 through Newegg with a $30 rebate.
