Hoi.
I have Ainol Novo 7 Fire (a cheap chinese one, which does what I need) and among its usages I would like to use it as an navigation device. Have also a Holux M-1000C which is a GPS reciever/logger which can provide a GPS signal over bluetooth. So what I'm looking for is a good navigation software which works ok offline and preferably does not cost arm and leg (or anything at all).
Now Google maps is pretty decent but this tablet has only wifi so not that useful if you are driving around or have forgot to precache a region (and as far as I understand the map chunks you make available for offline use will be deleted after approx 30 days) and there is only 8 map chunks you can "make available offline". I have poked a bit at the MapDroyd, which seems pretty decent, however, it does not provide any kind of address search or turn by turn directions at all. Just shows your location. But it has offline maps and if nothing else pops up that does it better seems like a decent option to keep around. Then theres also navfree world, which does sort of similar stuff as google maps but is offline capable, however, there is that issue that search does not work offline, so its basically the same as MapDroyd in offline mode with just more cluttered interface. And there is a kinda dealbreaker in it as well, as when I tried a search to see how accurate it is it directed me to entirely wrong part of the street when I was looking for an address when I tried just two addresses only 2 km apart. The wrong spot was approx 1 km away from the correct location so .... yeah. I tried also briefly CoPilot, however, it crashes for me on startup telling me that it cant get gps signal so it seems this one needs a data connection to work at all (I do have gps signal over bluettoth but it seems to ignore that and beelines straight for data connection or there is some other issue).
Is there any good offline gps navigation software for Android which can do turn by turn and has an offline search which is reasonably accurate ? Or is my only option to gough up 60 euros for tomtom. garmini or magellan software ? Does any of these have a problem working with a bluetooth gps if anyone knows and if they are the only ones on the market which are good enough which one is the "best"?
