Looking for high quality earbuds or earpiece, with a microphone, advice from audiophile humbly...

So, I want to get my girlfriend a nice gift, specifically some nice headphones or an earpiece of some sort.

She's kinda picky with what she uses, she hates standard over the ear headphones, but likes earbuds. She uses them for gaming, so a microphone built in would be the best.

She currently uses Klipsh S4s with a crappy Dynxe mic.

If possible, I'd like to get her something wireless, but I'm not even sure if wireless earbuds exist? Obviously they wouldn't be able to be completely wireless, if they were earbuds, but once again, haven't found much on them.

I've considered Klipsh S4i:

Or maybe a Plantronics Voyager Pro UC:

I'm hoping to keep it below $300

What set ups would you crazy kids recommend?

im not sure if this is helpful but

a. the quality of bluetooth headsets isnt as good as wired ultimately

b. you are allowing your girlfriend to have lots of microwaves blast directly into hear head right next to her ear for hours on end for weeks or months.

my paltry advice is to stick with wired. Im also after the same thing for my phone and perhaps when on the tablet late at night

Why not just get a better mic? It would seem redundant to buy another set of the same earbuds, simply for the mic. Then again, they are GREAT earbuds for the money. Up to you, but I'd be worried she'd be like, "Don't I already have a pair of these?"

Then again, she if she DOES really like the S4s, you know she'll appreciate the S4i.

For wireless, maybe something like bluetooth headphones? Maybe something like the Moto S11-Flex would be doable? I can't comment on sound as I don't have experience with them. Just brainstorming.

Good luck! Hope she likes what you pick out for her. thumb.gif

The biggest problem I've had with finding another mic is that I haven't found any mics that don't pick up EVERYTHING in the room. Even her current mic does, and we game in the same room. My headset mic picks up nothing of what she says, but if I talk, it's on both mics, and don't even get me started on when I type with my Model M.

I have the S4i earbuds and the mic is not really that good, I don't recommend getting them just for the mic, they do sound pretty nice for the price, better than my $200 Monster Turbines.

What is your girlfriend going to use the headphones for? Music? Gaming? Just talking over Skype?
Is she OK with full sized headphones?

If HiFi and wireless are of equal worth to you, I strongly recommend Apt-X compatible devices. Bluetooth is the only option that is truly portable, and bluetooth audio quality is horrid. That is, until Apt-X was created. Apt-X adresses compression issues with bluetooth and presents a solution for even true HiFi gear.

Wireless Hi-Fi buds with a quality microphone probably won't happen for you. Hi-Fi buds with a quality microphone might, though, so I'd recommend picking up the Apt-X HTC stereo clip and a small female-female 3.5mm jack to go along with a Hi-Fi buds/microphone combo if you can find them. Personally, I'd recommend headphones, but if she hates over ears I suppose it's out of the question.

I picked up a pair of Sennhieser 550-X travel headphones, and they're simply amazing. They're a true HiFi set in terms of audio quality, perhaps matching something around the $400 range (not including an amp, which is one reason I feel the price is good on these.) With the HTC Stereoclip (Apt-X reciever) and the Creative BT-D1 (Apt-X Transmitter) I've converted my phone, PC, headphones, and car/home audio system completely to bluetooth and it sounds fantastic and it's all interchangeable. Not to mention the 550-x has a great microphone with good background noise reduction, so I can use it for phone calls and gaming.

If you can find a quality buds/mic combo, and a small female-female 3.5mm jack, she'd have the same compatibility (if her phone is Apt-X ready.)
