The 8350 @ stock beats the 920 even @ 4GHZ. Your not even mentioning the fact that the FX-8350 is unlocked and hits 4.7GHZ easy. Do you not understand how to read the charts?
LoL z77 is a newer chipset then 2011 even tho it is at the end of it's line.

You also do not realize you can Re sell the 1155 and get 1150 "haswell" and only be 100$ into it...

Also it cost less to buy a 3770k+mb+ram then Just a 3930k.. Socket 1150 will be the same..

LoL i7 920 is with in 5 to 10% of a 8350 "clock for clock" And beats it in gaming.
I know the guy who writes those grafs you are linking..
A 8350 Does not do 4.7ghz easy... it does 4.5ghz easy.. it takes a expensive MB and the lotto to hit more.. Just like every other chip.

But back to your down grade..

For cheapness.. If you want to run " Stock " get a 8350... If you live near microcenter get a 3770k for 229$.... If you want to overclock get a X58 chip... Cpu+mb+ram 200$

Depends how you look at it. In terms of IPC, yes.

Look - I am trying to be respectful. I will not invest into an old or dying platform - hence why I am asking specifically if I should go AM3+ or FM2. I stated in the OP in bold that I will not consider a LGA 1155 setup no matter how much you argue it. I'm not ignorant. I am just asking for specifics.

Personally I'd probably go FM2 unless you were able to afford an 83xx CPU on AM3+ in the budget, otherwise if FM2 wasn't an option and 83xx wasn't doable, I'd go Phenom II.

I'm going for FM2, which is where AMD is putting a lot of money into.

Plus, it has HSA coming.

FM2 is future proof whereas am3+ is pretty much dead. I would either get a FM2 or go Intel.
The FM2 series processors are more marketed towards budget gaming, low cost general purpose PCs and for people looking for the best bang for the buck. You can pick up an FM2 APU and crossfire IGP with a dedicated GPU and still not break the bank. While this setup may be cost effective, it is not as good in terms of performance when compared to an AM3+ with a mid-high end dedicated GPU.

If you didn't already have the HD7870, and play WoW, I would agree on the FM2 setup. However, you have already invested into a mid grade GPU, and you play a game that is very CPU demanding. The FM2 APU will handle WoW, however not as well as an AM3+ processor would.

With that said, considering you are not willing to budge on anything Intel at the moment, my suggestion is to either buy an AM3+ setup, or wait for the LGA1150 socket setups to release. I don't believe that the FX4xxx series is your best bet however, I would opt for the 6xxx or 8xxx processors.
