Puretrak HD glides scraping my mousepads

Thread Starter
Been using the Puretrak HD glides on my Kinzu the last 4 days and they put up a ton of resistance on cloth... I could even feel the fibers coming loose on my Puretrak Talent pad. I've had to switch to a hard pad just to get a normal glide.

Is this normal? Do they take a while to break in? Because I've seen no change from ~20 hours of use.

Look at the pads to see if they caught any sand/dirt. Performance mouse skates need a perfectly clean surface both on the feet and the mousepad to glide properly, and since they are soft they can get sand impregnated on the surface and scratch everything up...while feeling very annoying.

If the feet have tiny scratches and sand/dirt in them, I have had success with taking a small square of wet sanding paper and alcohol and giving them a buffing to get them nice and smooth again. Then clean the mousepad as best as you can.

A hard pad will be your best glide, but keep in mind debris will quickly scratch up the finish on a hard pad so it must be cleaned often.

The puretrak hd need time to break in, yes. You could bend the edges on the feets with your nail, takes away the scratching.

This thread might help you http://www.overclock.net/t/1006183/new-puretrak-perfectglide-hd smile.gif

It's definitely not because my desk/mousepad are dirty; I keep it very tidy.

You might be right it's because of the edges since they don't seem to be rounded off. What about filing down the edges slightly?

Don't do the filing, your nail will be more than enough. Tried it once, and the edges was all F-ed up. redface.gif You can push fairly hard with your nail on the edges. smile.gif

Hello!

This a thread I opened for the Puretrak HD mousefeet. I am personally using a set myself. I do not recommend it for cloth mousepad users specially on the first month of the glides.

They don't break in that well with soft pads. What you probably need is a hard surface with an even texture to break in the mouse. You wont be able to feel the benefits of having those teflon feet unless it has been broken in. Actually when it is new, it would feel worse than the stock feet that came with steelseries mouse

Don't buy feet buy this, CS Hyde Teflon mousetape. 5 yards of this for $7.53 +S/H beats "feet" anyday. I have never used it on a cloth pad so cannot attest as to how it will hold up in the long term but I bought a roll a year ago and have only used about 18" so far.

Not everyone would like the hassle of having to replace the teflon tape. I have used stuff like this before and I'm not so sure if technology has improved it over the years but my experience with these is that it comes off relatively easier than mousefeet. It's either going to come off or slide out of place. Mice are designed to have shallow 'grooves' where the mousefeet rest and that kinda prevents and helps the adhesive from moving laterally. Not unless you cut the tape to the exact specific shape of those grooves.... which is quite a hassle already... plus I doubt that would be thick enough to rest inside the groove.

If this kind of tape is something you stick OVER the current mousefeet then I'm guessing you're going to have a hard time maintaining it there. Plus you'll also have to maintain that no sticky gunk and adhesive residue goes astray in the bottom of the mouse. Nothing feels worse than a mouse with some adhesive gunk at the bottom.

If it doesn't move around that would really be perfect. I just think people specially those with sweaty palms and wrists would have a problem maintaining the tape from moving. Moisture is always the enemy of these adhesives.

round the edges yourself or play on a hard surface (like ur desk) till they're rounded. they do take time to break in but they'll be the only skates you'll ever need once they're broken in. have them on my DA for a little over a year now and they've maybe lost 0.2mm. i'm using a talent pad and the glide is identical to that of hyperglides.
