[YouTube] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - End of an Era - Page 9

In all honesty as a veteran ff11 player ( best mmorpg i ever played......until abyssea ruined the entire game ) I have high hopes for the game, but there are several things that still put me off and makes me believe the game will do great for a few months and after hype is over the same casual mmorpg players will move on to something else.

1) almost every single person that played the game has everything to max cap, and they are refusing to start fresh and new since according to them "its not expansion but new game". This will harm the game more than make people happy, i can guarantee that more than 50% of these people also abused a lot of stuff in game like the infamous power leveling fiasco that never got fixed or removed/patched.

-leveling will be quest based also I for one am sick and tired of the "quest hub" talk to npc kill x amount of enemy---->get half a level" this was one ofthe reason i played ff11 back then and not another mmorpg was due tot he fact you go hunt enemy and do your own things at any time you wish.

You were not pressured to reach endgame and focus only endgame mentality of todays mmorpg. In ff11 i took my time to explore, socialize in and out of parties/etc and there was always a lot of things to do through all levels no matter where i was or what region. And everything wasn't so much hand holding/easy mode we have today they make games giving us impression like people never played any rpg's before or can't think for themselves.

with limited end game stuff it will take a while for these same people to get tired and have nothing else to do.

2)last but not least the "WoW-Ification" or trying to copy WoW just like every single other mmorpg that has been released and failed.

here is a interesting post by someone on another forum:
Quote:
According to an interview with Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of FFXIV ARR, the new game will be a WoW clone. When the original FFXIV was being released a couple years ago the director of that game said that they were using WoW as their model of success. This is amazing.

BM: Final Fantasy XI just had its ten year anniversary and it got a new expansion coming up. You talked about educating the development team at what the standard is at a west MMOs, so with an eye of Final Fantasy XI that is hugely successful, what did they get right what Final Fantasy XIV wasn’t doing?

Yoshida: One of the reasons why Final Fantasy XI was so successful was that the whole development team went and played Everquest and they thought “Okay, we want to do exactly what they did with Final Fantasy XI!” You know there were times where you couldn’t contact any of them because of how much they played *laughs*, but because they did that they had a direction. One of the problems with Final Fantasy XIV was that there wasn’t that direction, they didn’t know what the standard was and they never played World of Warcraft, they didn’t know enough and because they didn’t know enough they couldn’t build something up to the standards of current MMOs. Plus when they started creating Final Fantasy XI there was Final Fantasy X that strongly influenced them.

With Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn we don’t want to create many new things, we first want to start of getting this global standard and then adding that Final Fantasy feel. We want to get the crystal tower in and the gold soucer to get that epic Final Fantasy feeling.

Also not sure why everyone excited for cut scenes It does look amazing but it does not show game, this reminds me of joke my friends always have about how movie trailers/game trailers nowadays are all cut scenes with a touch of michael bay and end game result 100% nothing like epic trailers lol.

This is my honest opinion I would also liked for them to take inspiration from their own MMORPG instead of trying to please the mass. If this game had been anything like FF11 but with some nice changes it would of given them good profit and can guarantee a lot of old ff11 players would agree. Instead they have tried the same tactics as SE has been doing for a while and its about pleasing masses and not doing anything new.

P.S- this guy says almost everything i think of todays SE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mH80aBa3WE&feature=related

wish for the best of the game but after reading so much they still have same mentality and after loss of profit will be scared to try new innovations.

I think its strange that they said they used WoW as their model for success becuase the game played nothing like WoW, it was not stream lined, there was and still is a masive feeling of being alone in such a huge world. The game is extremely harsh for a new player, not saying that 11 wasn't but, i disagree that 14 was or is anything like wow.

I think where they failed was trying to make something new and different from 11, there was no need to reinvent the wheel, people in 11 basically wanted and still want a re-skinned version of 11 on modern systems.

I also dont care about cu scenes, despite how beautiful they are, but all the same, i am a 11 veteran hoping for somewhat of a transferred essence of 11 on to 2.0, and judging by all the "letters from the producer" this is hopefully what we will get.

This ! ! !

When I was actively playing FFXIV, this was the conversation that would always come up. Yes we wanted something new, something shiny. But we also wanted the underpinnings to stay the same, or at least improve upon a previous concept not destroy it. SE went ahead and threw away everything that made FFXI great, and left the rest wrapped up in a pretty yet cruddy engine with laggy controls and called it FFXIV.

I could not agree more. It was sad that most of my time on 14 was spent talking about my memories and adventures in 11 ha ha.....

I'm going to give SE the benefit of the doubt on AAR. I'm dying for a really good FF game.

Because this is not a trailer, it's a cutscene about something that happens/happened in the game, the final one at that.

Since you said you played FFXI, this cutscene is akin the one you got after beating CoP, just that this time the players did not win.

I do see your point though, most of the people didn't play, and for them it's just a pretty trailer showing a dragon blowing things up.

So tired of people complaining about this, especially when it's coming from someone who was (or still is) an FFXI fan. You realize that FFXI was an Everquest rip-off, right? In fact, Everquest was the inspiration for FFXI when Hironobu Sakaguchi pitched the idea of an online FF game to Square. FFXI copied the formula of the most popular MMO out at its time (Everquest) and now FFXIV is copying the formula of the most popular MMO out right now (Warcraft). Nothing wrong with that, especially since FFXI still turned out to be a fantastic game even though it was just a clone.

People are letting their disdain for Warcraft impede their ability to look at things objectively and fairly. To criticize FFXIV for being a Warcraft clone, but to then ignore the fact that FFXI was an Everquest clone is hypocritical.

I play XIV and love it. Currently seeking a LS for ARR 8P. The trailer just made me want to play the game even more and the fact that the game is being rebuilt to be more keyboard/mouse friendly is even better.

Typical quality expected from Square Enix when it comes to CG trailers.

Indeed, because if they're going to cutscene me silly in their games anyway, I might as well put down the controller and watch a single movie full of awesome action that isn't turn-based tongue.gif

They need to launch more titles like Last Remannt mad.gif PC jrpg's been dead quiet for a while now and SE is only company that might brighten my day.
