GTX 650 extremely loud

Thread Starter
I recently bought a new PC including an EVGA GTX 650, which even at 20% fan speed is individually louder than any other PC I've owned. Is this a common theme or should I try to get a replacement?

Thanks

Open card, void the warranty, and slap a passive heatsink on that. Problem solved.

So did you buy a pre-built system? If so contact them and see if you need to RMA it with them or with the manufacture of the card.

Self built. I sent a support ticket to EVGA but no response yet.

Replace it with a much quieter Galaxy GTX 650 GC, problem solved =P

In all seriousness though, it may very well be defective, especially if there's anything abnormal about the fan's loudness like buzzing, grinding, whistling, etc. No properly built card should be making distracting noise, especially at idle.

Ah, wait for a response from them, it sounds like you got a card with a bad fan.

Sorry to bump this, but I got a replacement and it too is obnoxiously loud and makes a buzzing sound up close.

Is taping the fan so it can't spin an awful idea? If it is, who makes a silent GTX 650 with a small PCB that I can get in the UK? I'm not really ok spending like £25 on a passive cooler.

That's really stupid.

You can't get a GTX 650 on passive. You can get GT 640 passive from Asus, or Zotac.

Would taping the fan damage it or would it just start running way hot? It hits like 35'C under load...

GT 640 is just a little too sucky for my needs :<<br />
edit: modding bios to allow 0% fan speed looks like a possibility

It's a blower thus when you stop fan, you'd block air. There is next to no natural airflow. Also the only difference between GTX 650, and GT 640 is type of memory.
