So far no noticeable differences in the games I play. CryEngine 3 games are everything but optimized.

I really don't understand why you're complaining about the article when they state that gaming performance is roughly the same (with performance favoring Windows 8 imho). Many people just want to make sure that performance isn't going to go down, it's a logical parameter to test.

By migrating to windows 8, my graphics score went from 7.9 to 7.8 (I hope the drivers in future will bring back this score up frown.gif )

The new drivers 310.33 are absolutely terrible for windows 8, my graphics score went from 7.8 to 7.7 with them. I also had tremendous lag while playing games, had to go back to 306.

Performance will go up as drivers mature for Win8...obvious is obvious.
It is too early for "Final Conclusions", but we are all happy pulling definitive answers out of our stinky opinions, don't we? biggrin.gif

There is not differences in gaming between Windows 7 and Windows 8. But for CPU bound games, there is a slight different one that due to the new thread management in Windows 8.

I am running on Windows 8 Pro 64bit as I speak here.

Yup.
I think over time that may change a little, but for the most part the answer now is no.

I don't feel any difference gaming in Windows 8 however it offers a lot more than just gaming.

I was one of those people who went into Windows 8 skeptical. On my fourth week I found I cannot down grade to Windows 7 any longer. All the other benefits, features, and system improvements alone is the reason to switch.

Windows 8 is the most polished system debut even more so than Windows 7 I've ever experienced. I won't go into details that would go off topic but for gaming Windows 8 is solid and worth upgrading for other reasons even if your a gamer.

Games already play good on W7, and it boots in like 4 seconds, sleeps instantly, and IE will always suck. Since most games don't have DX11, and won't be for a while W8 is not even a factor. There's absolutely no reason to inconvenience myself by installing a new OS and having to configure and install everything again, when the one I have does everything extremely well.

My Nexus 7 takes longer to start than my desktop, and I even have a slow SSD from 2010 including the extremely long time that Asus UEFI boards take to post. I can't wait to see M$ stock tumble so hard that Steve gets the boot.

Edit: I had the RT installed as my only OS for about 2 weeks, it was broken, buggy, and audit mode was part of that reason. Overall not a good impression, especially having to use an email account and internet to log into my computer.

Conclusion
After many hours of benchmarking, we can finally convincingly answer the question whether gaming in Windows 8 is better or worse than in Windows 7.

And the answer is: It's the same!

And no reason for me to upgrade thumb.gif
