Amazing how every time ANYTHING to do with Win8, bunch of anti 'Metro' people come running in to talk silly. We get it, you don't like it, it's still a better OS though. Maybe not specifically for framerates, but in darn near every other way.. better. I liked Win7 as much as the next person, but minus Aero and the Start Screen (which after using, I actually like better now) Win8 is a clear winner.

I had nothing but issue with 7 since I installed it in July. Note that I ran vista 64 for four years with no issues at all. I know my 7 experience is not typical and I didn't run any comparisons before switching so I don't have hard numbers to give you but I can tell you with no doubt I am getting better FPS at higher settings in 8 on every game I have played so far. Running 2x 6870's eyefinity 3840x1080. Skyrim, DA2, Fallout NV, MW3, MW2, Borderland 1, Batman AA and AC, Bioshock, Bad Company 2, Cities XL 2011, James Bond Bloodstone, Total War Shogun 2, Portal 2, The Witcher 2 EE. Those are what I have tried so far and all run significantly better in 8. And no it isn't "hey, I am getting 3 FPS more in Skyrim, awesome!", it's more like "Oh yeah, wow, that's definitely better!". I have been able to bump up AA/AF from 2x/8x on average to 8x/16x on average and still getting better FPS. thumb.gif

Bottom line is that for me the switch was a massive improvement and I have dropped 7 like a stone and not looked back. Your mileage will vary...

Yeah, it's the "clear winner" because benchmark after benchmark show that depending on the game and setting, Windows 8 actually performs WORSE than Windows 7? I find it ironic that you blast people who don't like Metro, then pretty much ignore the actual topic at hand (Gaming in Windows 8 vs Windows 7), which IS frame rates, then pretty much end you comment with "I like better now". Fact of the matter is, if you want to remove the personal preference from either side, the fact remains that "by the numbers", Windows 8 isn't really all that much better (and sometimes worse) than Windows 7 for gaming.

This is actually interesting to me because it shows that we haven't lost anything in performance gaming. So MS didn't just build another ME or Vista, but with the RCs that I have used I just don't like it. With a touch screen(which I don't plan on buying one any time soon) Win 8 is a pretty decent OS but without it you basically have to group all your icons in the front area so you don't have to mouse or keyboard over 100 times. Metro could be better in a lot of ways imo.

I like the concept of 8 but I think they are trying to force people to buy touch screens which don't always have great resolutions and are pretty expensive for my budget.

Best res I have seen so far in my looking is 1080P 21.5" $329

That is funny. I read the other day that 8GB is now the new 4GB if you get my meaning. I just put another 8 in mine so I could keep ahead of the game lol(not really I want to run more VMs)

On my prevoius post though I stated about the resolutions were not very high for touchscreens which isn't true because now that I have looked a bit more I have found all sorts of screens with 1080P but the price is still a major factor to me. A good LED 21.5 monitor can cost as little as $165-$185 where as the touchscreens start at that size about $300

source from newegg. From my experience at the school I work for, touchscreens are still quirky. Not always a reliable means of navigation. We have several on Point of Sale machines and we don't have a lot of trouble with them other than having to orient. However we have had some of the same model and year that just go bezerk for no reason at all. Brand new just out of the box with drivers installed and you touch the bottom of the screen and the pointer goes to the top. It was however fixed with a firmware update. Just little stuff like that on something that really isn't a brand new technology just gets me. I'm sure there are others who would say that they love touchscreens and for the most part I would agree but my final issue still comes down to price.

I thought API's were supposed to include new features whereas drivers where supposed to help performance?
