Sony MDR-V6 for gaming?

Thread Starter
I'm looking for nice headphones with a little more bass and better sound overall then my current gamecom 367 headset. I looked through a lot of headphones and the Sony MDR-V6 appeals to me because its consistent positive reviews and durable build quality. What I wanted to know was if they were viable for gaming or not. Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm looking to spend less the $100 and I would put myself in the category of gamer that wants accurate directional sound but also wants some bass for music and action in the game (not basshead headphones though).

The list I was considering thus far:

Superlux 668B
Superlux 681
Samson SR850
Audio-Technica ATH-M30
Creative Aurvana Live
Monoprice Premium Hi-Fi DJ Style Over-the-Ear Pro
Panasonic RP-HTF600-S
AKG Acoustics K-240 Semi Open Studio Headphones

Sony MDR-V6

Thanks for your help!

MDv6 are monitor headphones, which means they are meant to reproduce sound as accurately as possible. This is not good for gaming, especially since you place an emphasis on bass. For $25, I suggest the hd 202, it has punchy bass but not to the point where it's muddy.

Ok fair enough. But what about something in a little bit higher of a tier? I want bass but also good headphones for music. I'm upgrading over my gamecom and I want something that will really blow it away. Im sure the 202 is better but will it destroy it?

Sr850s are excellent, but semi open. Sound will leak, but that's a small price to pay for the fantastic soundstage which helps in games.. Also consider the Sony Xb700. They're very bassy

What about the superlux 668B? I heard they are very similar to the SR850. They are also like 13 bucks cheaper than SR850 and have a detacheable cord.

I was also looking at the Ultrasone 550 Pro and 580 HFI. Both are in the 100-150 range but maybe theyll go on sale during black friday. It seems these have a very good combination of sound stage and bass.

I have Sony MDR-XB 500 and I absolutely love them. This pair of headphones produces insane amount of quality bass and can do miracles with equalizer tweaking. I heard that xb500 have more bass than xb700. On the other hand, xb700 have better mids and highs, but I don't see any problems with xb500, because equalizer solves this problem. I use these headphones for music and gaming.

Yep this is true, the 700 has less bass than the 500, but it compensates with improved mids and highs. They're very comfortable, too. OP, go with the 668b, it's basically the same as the sr850. An OEM relationship maybe?
