Rift free weekend + upcoming expansion, worth it?

Thread Starter
I was wondering if there are any current RIFT players out there. They are getting a pretty massive update, and I have 6 days of free game time (plus its free weekend). I looked at the population and they've been growing over the last year, while still nothing compared to WoW, i've been done with that game for awhile.

Is it worth getting into? Did they improve it? How hard is it for someone to get into the game and actually start raiding? I raided top 20 US for over 2 years in WoW, so i'm not a bad player by any means but I need a good raiding guild to keep me attracted to a MMO. If the game has the "elitist" mindset of WoW, it would be ages before I could get to that point, which is my biggest concern.

I actually would like to know the same. I am currently in MMO space bouncing from game to game cannot find anything that really hooks me. WoW has become a one button grind now for the most part, just aoe heal in dungeons and that's it. GW2 is cool but I cannot seem to stay interested more than a few hours at a time, there really is no drive for me in that game to level.

Tried Rift when it first came out, at the time was playing WoW and figured that it was too close to WoW to give me anything new, but maybe now it can since WoW has become just nothing but a daily grind... it's unbelievable how quickly I lost interest after a new expansion actually.

Anyway no real input from me on the thread, just going to tag along and hopefully someone who has some information can help us! If you do decide to play let me know and I will roll something complementary to your class and we can level together, if it's not a giant quest hub fest like wow....

I have played Rift for a couple of months , i havent reached the maximum level but i have to say this game is pretty solid.
It is wel polished for a newly mmorpg, and easy to step into if you played Wow before!

I would say just go for it, this game seems to be having a great community and stil growing!

Its cheap to buy and start playing !

I would say go for it biggrin.gif!

I am also interested in playing this again, I got a rogue to max level at launch and then stopped. What kind of changes have they made since launch? Out of all the new P2P mmo's Rift had the most potential imo.

Rift endgame PvE, at least when I played, was pretty easy to get into. You would have to farm dungeons for a couple weeks to get geared, but once you did it was pretty standard end game raid content. It was way different than WoW's mindset which was a major plus. Overall from what I gathered the community was also more inviting than WoW's meaning that people acted mature and not like they were all 7 years old. This was about 6-8 months ago so I don't know if it has changed since then.
