Are HP laptops....bad?

Thread Starter
Hey all.
I'm looking to buy a laptop for school and light gaming (DOTA and Halo CE mostly), but the only three choices of brands I have are Dell, HP and Acer. I'm leaning towards HP here.
I've been hearing pretty bad stuff about HP laptops from people, but the people I know that actually owns HP laptops, don't seem to have any problems at all.

I'm looking at these three laptops here:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/B5Z51UA?HP-Pavilion-g7-2220us-Notebook-PC

http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/C2M11UA?HP-ENVY-dv6-7210us-Notebook-PC

http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/C2N66UA?HP-ENVY-dv7-7230us-Notebook-PC

But I really want to know from you guys...should I go the HP route out of the three?

I would pick the third one.It has more memory and a bigger hard drive,it is also a quad.I am not sure about the first one.

it isnt that they are bad(albeit i dont like my old hp) but rise of better alternatives are coming. HP atm has the most # of laptop sales, but is about to be overturned by lenovo soon.

My old hp dm1z's harddrive started crapping out right after the 1 year warranty ended and more problems started arising from there on.

HP's are average. Better then acer but not as good as some others. If you value performance and build quality over aesthetics then Lenovo might be a better choice. One main thing to look out for is the warranty. Laptops by there very nature have a pretty high failure rates so a +3 year warranty is a big plus.

The thing i've noticed with HP is that they're cheap laptops are really cheap and bad while their expensive line up is pretty good.

Once HP laptops were very good but now they are just average.
Depends on which laptop you buy. The price tells you if they are good or bad. Cheap laptops are bad. Expencive ones are good... I can tell from experience.
