If you have a local microcenter around you, you should definitely look into buying a cpu + mobo combo for $50 off. You could get a 3570k + a low cost mobo that has rebate which wouldnt be all that far off from an upgrade on the cpu.

id bet that the overclock is unstable (yes yes i know it started before, but it could be a reason you still have issues) and upgrading a motherboard while keeping windows installed is pretty risky, and im guessing you didn't do the trick where you set windows into the default driver setup for switching mobos when you did that

Believe it or not the clock seems fine. Ive ran several stress tests for multiple hours with an issue. when it hangs it tell me there is an error in "system memory dump files". Windows7 was installed on the HD I used to build this thing though I didnt have the key for it and bought another copy. I know this is off topic now but could that be the issue? I appreciate your input, I'm learning but definatley still winging it too

When it restarts what error code do you get? It doesn't make sense to change your chip to the FX4300 considering what chip you already have. If gaming is what you want then the chip you have is good enough and can be overclocked further. But if you do encoding and stuff like that then grab the FX 6300.

so wait, you're saying it runs fine, but then it does hang? Sorry, that just seems contradictory smile.gif. If it is running good for a while, but then does hang, there is an issue. A false or nonexistant windows license will have no affect on stability though, so that is definitely not the reason.

as for an upgrade, i would ask why? are you noticing any slowdowns or do you just want a faster processor? If the chip really were stable, would you still want to upgrade, or is this just to fix the issue of stability?

What I mean by "runs fine" is that when its working I'm more than happy with the performance for what I have. It will be fine for days or even weeks then bam, it hangs then blue screens. For an example.... I've just spent all weekend playing L4D2, Dirt, and Alien vs. Predator with no issue. I do have problems running BF3 (been laggy since I bought the game even on low settings) but anything thing else is good. I was just sitting at my comp now and went to open mozilla and it happened to me.
As far as your question about my wanting to upgrade, its because I've read that some of the older Phenoms can be unstable with my motherboard so thought that may be it. If its a simple setting then the answer is yes and no. If I can wait a few months then that would be nice, I would like a more powerful chip anyways. not that I need it

This might help.
0x101 = increase vcore
0x124 = increase/decrease vcore or QPI/VTT...have to test to see which one it is
0x0A = unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore
0x1E = increase vcore
0x3B = increase vcore
0xD1 = QPI/VTT, increase/decrease as necessary
0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency or uncore multi unstable, increase RAM voltage or adjust QPI/VTT, or lower uncore if you're higher than 2x
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)
0x1a = Memory Management
Post a cpu z screenshot. Want to know what frequency and timings your ram is running at and at what voltage. It looks like they overclocked your ram too. Since your chip cannot be overclocked through the multi they used the fsb. This increases ht link,cpu nb frequency as well as the ram frequency. Somewhere here lies your problem but I'm going to need more details from you.

These are now back to the "stock" settings. I have uninstalled AI Suite II and loaded defaults through the bios. My chip only ran at 2.7ghz from the factory refurb gateway it came out of, But went to what its at when I plugged it into the new motherboard. Also The memory I bought was rated at DDR# @1600mhz but it only reads as 1400 something, I just assumed it was the board optimizing it. Hope this helps you, I appreciate the help Jason.

When I started this post I was expecting to be spammed with "change to intel" lol

First, I'm not familiar with these processors but when you overclock do you with the bus or multiplier? If you overclock with the bus maybe your RAM is unstable if it is run at higher frequency with no voltage increase. P.S. I'm pretty new to overclocking still so if information is incorrect please correct me.
