Asus PB278Q OR Samsung S27A850D

Thread Starter
I'm planning on purchasing a new display, but I don't know which one is the best quality and price.

I'm doing 50% graphic/web design and 50% gaming (fps mostly).

Can anyone help?

You can't go wrong with both

In the 1440p+ club in my signature we have users with the Asus or Samsung 1440p screens.

ASk there too if you wish.

The Samsung S27A850D is the much better choice.

Much more reliable and better quality panel overall.

I find the Asus to have very poor picture quality.

Compared to what? Put a BluRay in and watch it on an Asus pb278q, I don't think too many people are going to call the resulting image 'very poor'. I've had the Asus about a week now and am completely satisfied. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the Samsung just as much but the Samsung was ~$200 more expensive after taxes here in Toronto. I read a thread similar to this on another forum before deciding on the Asus vs. the Samsung, and in that thread it seemed to come down to the PWM rate. Some people will be fatigued by the lower PWM rate of the Asus when it's at lower brightness levels. Those people might be better served to go with the more expensive Samsung. For everyone else (like me), the Asus is an especially nice monitor.

Either way, Avengers on BluRay looks absolutely sick on this thing in my opinion, not within a long shot of 'very poor'.

Assuming that open box you'd mentioned is still available and free of issues, you'd be getting a steal, I think.

Well most Asus' have poor color quality according to a CNET review. Their propensity to coat the display in a green or pinkish tint ruins the image quality.

If I remember it right, all the samsungs have very high input lag, definitely not for fps games. Better check it out
