I don't think that would be a USB limitation. USB can handle flash drives up to very high speeds, so why should pressing more then 6 keys be a problem. It's probably an issue in the controllerchip integrated in the keyboard. Perhaps Max Keyboard found a sollution. But, I do remain very sceptical. I think we need some keyboard science here!

Rollover is a term used to describe how many simultaneous key-presses can be reported to the PC. Multi-key rollover is advantageous for gaming, where it’s common for many keys to be pressed simultaneously.
Most USB gaming keyboards have 6-key rollover (6KRO), meaning that only 6 keys can be pressed simultaneously. You can test this yourself by simply opening Notepad and trying to press more than 6 keys simultaneously or using a key press utility like Aqua’s Keytest to see what keys are actually pressed. Some manufacturers have misunderstood the 6KRO roll over as a limitation of the USB bus and have resorted to the obsolete PS/2 interface as a workaround.
The architecture of the Vengeance series keyboards utilizes the full USB spec report length that allows for up to 20 keys to be reported simultaneously.

As well:

And for reference my USB Wireless Illuminated K800 has something like a 10KRO or thereabouts. The wired version however has a terribly low rollover and cant even do things like Shift + W + Space. rolleyes.gif

That last sentence in the 2nd quote seems to tell there can be 20 kro max in the USB specs.

It sounds like 20 native, and then more than that if the keyboard tricks the computer into thinking it is multiple keyboards. But more than 20 is kind of overkill anyhow.

How many of you guys game with both hands on the keyboard? It's 2012.

The DOWNSIDE is compatiblity. Hence the Ducky DIP Switches.

Personally, I find >6KRO a silly feature up there with Gold USB connectors and PS/2 in general.

What's most important is which keys can be pressed simultaneously.

Like the example I gave above, not being able to press Shift + W + Space at the same time is a killer for default layouts. No sprint jumping is a bad thing.

The keyboard I had prior to this one would not recognize Shift + W + Space + Caps Lock (my push to talk key). So I'd be sprinting and chatting and couldn't jump.

Actually this is not what's important. The issue you had on your old keyboard was because it was 2KRO, since a certain 3 key + modifier combination failed. 6KRO means any combination of 6 keys + any number of modifiers depressed at the same time will register. This should be more than enough for 99+% of applications.

I need a Cherry MX Brown because I'm not a hardcore gamer nor a serious typist (I do want a quiet keyboard). I think that 6KRO will be enough for me.
So far I have two options in mind, the Ducky Shine II DK9008S2 and the CM Storm Trigger.
The CM have a great price, so I tempted to just go for it.
What do you think ? Is the CM good bargain ?
Thanks

I would go the Ducky Shine II over the CM Storm Trigger as a preference as I've heard nothing wrong with the Trigger I'm aware of. I had the same choice just recently looking for browns and decided in the end to go with Logitech G710+ over the Ducky. For me it boiled down to a few extra features I personally liked with the G710+ and Logitech's indisputable confidence in customer support for my decision.

It's built as solid as a tank as any good mechanical keyboard. Cherry MX Brown switches with O-rings for a little extra noise dampening. I feel it's one of the quietest mechanical keyboards without having to put O-rings on yourself. I purchased mine on release day and it's working like a charm and I'm a bit heavy typist so it's taking a beating and it feels great.

It has that gamer touch with orange macro border that might not be for some people and honestly it's the only drawback if any with this keyboard. I paired mine with an awesome mouse that matches the keyboard with the Steel Series Sensei Fnatic mouse to bring it all together. thumb.gif It's also the first keyboard I've seen on the market to come out with the new Windows 8 sqaure windows logo on the windows key. tongue.gif

Pictures in bio.

Exactly.

Yet 99% of gamers seem to want more than 6KRO and everyone from Duck to Noppoo to Thermaltake ... is willing to tout it as a must have feature despite the OS and BIOS compatibility issues it creates.
