Normally i would want you to get your exams done, but this is Half Life 2 that we are talking about. Stop whatever you are doing and play it now.

But i'm pretty sure they'll deliver a very good engine. It's valve after all, my favorite developer since Blizzard joined with Activision.

I think long loading times can be in part blamed on the game content getting larger and larger over time. I rememember that about 5 years ago a game of several gigabytes in size was not that common while nowadays about 20 GB seems to be norm. All that while the HDD speed has not increased that substantially. Ofc one could optimize the reads somehow I imagine, however, on the other hand for the new game engine I doubt that they will spend a lot of developer hours on loading speeds with the relatively fast dropping SSD prices. By the time that engine releases in some years I would imagine that 512 GB SSD's would be already quite affordable.

Regarding longer loading times with source engine. It's not about read speeds but more about access time is why ssd's shine in it. Most of source engine games are full of thousand little files where better access time gives huge difference

I love valve and HL series, but crysis has a heck of a story line, you just cant see past your hater goggles. Its called progress, love when people dog on CoD for using the same rehashed engine, but its OK for valve to do it. I understand Valve greatly improves on it vs CoD, but the point of fact still remains.

I actually think the point of the fact doesn't remain after your last sentence. It really kind of defeats it. I mean....

I am a huge fan of all of the series being "dogged" on in this little argument, but if you read back james said Valve needs to "go back to being a AAA company."

Farcry, Crysis, Farcry 2, Crysis 2.

I'll just name source games to be nice. HL2. CS:S. L4D. L4D2. Portal. Portal 2. CS:Go. I could go on.

Pretty ridiculous thing to say to be honest.

Same engine rebuilt from the ground up to support today's tech and to be even more efficient? tongue.gif

Either way, it means progress is being made. We'll get HL3 eventually. All in due time... valve time.

I don't see hl3 being released in 2013 nor 2014 so we are looking at 2015+ here.

It's starting to look like the hugest disappointment in my life may be that I never got to play HL3.
