I have lost faith in Portable PC Gaming. Real shame Nvidia.

So this is why.
: As most of you might have noticed, I own a G53 with a 460M. I know this is a portable GPU, but that still does not explain how it works.

Lets take BF3 for example, I tried it with High Settings and 1080P (Hear me out) I know most of you are like "That's the reason"
but I do this just to figure out how much It can handle.
So I get like 20-30 FPS. Reasonable, since this is a Portable small GPU.

Now when I kill the Rez with lowest settings possible, I am lucky to get anything higher then 45 FPS.
We are talking about Rez Below 720P and Lowest POSSIBLE settings. I try Med settings, and still 45FPS.

Has Nvidia become lazy to the point where performance is last on there List?
I'm on 306.23 and every time I update, I have this feeling it gets even worse.

Prolly 45FPS is the most your CPU will allow, BF3 is one of the more CPU dependent titles. My 920 at 4.0GHz isn't even enough at times to keep my GPU's fully working. Take a look at CPU and GPU usage at the different resolutions/settings - that should give an idea of what's going on and if/where the bottleneck is.

When fps doesnt increase while lowering graphics settings it usualy hints at the reason being another component holding the gpu back. (even more so if you have gpu usuage software showing less than max)
What cpu u running that with?. If it isnt up to date, which considering the laptop has a 460m GPU im guessing it isnt up to date .. then its likely the cpu is holding the gpu back.
Modern games + old hardware ..doesnt work out ..bottlenecks pop up where once there were none.

It could be his CPU, mobile i7's are pretty clockspeed gimped. He has a i7-2670QM which running @ 2.2ghz (3.1ghz turbo). But I think that turbo boost is limited to a single core, so in games like BF3 he's probably running at 2.2ghz. Even if it could turbo on multiple cores, it would probably have to thermally throttle after a few minutes.

You also have to remember that with some games setting things like shadows to low will actually make it now work on the CPU and not the GPU, causing even worse problems.

Thing is, no matter what settings I choose, same effect. I will do anything for playable 60FPS.

could look into overlcocking the 460m, but make sure your temps are in check

Okay I tried to do another test, to see how it will work. I clocked it higher this time, now I get Higher FPS with 1080P then 720P. How in the hell? 1080P = Around 40 720P = around 35.

Turning eye Candy Up taxes the Gpu more then the Cpu that is why you see the Same frames for Med and low settings.
