I have a Sony Ericson Xperia X10 and I currently live in a dormitory. I was wondering are there ways to boost my signals because I literally have to be next to the window to have/make calls. The walls have metals inside them in case we have earthquakes, tornadoes, and artillery. I was thinking of buying some copper wire and tying it to the window and to my phone when I'm at home. Would this method work at all?

Lololol, probably not. You could try, but i doubt anything would happen. You might as well make a hat out of tin foil and see if that helps too! (just kidding).
If you want to make a copper antenna, it needs to be 1/4 lambda the wavelength of a cell phone signal and connected directly to your cell phones receiver (which would probably void the warranty).
Instead, pony up $200 - $300 for a cell phone booster. I have not used these personally, but i have a friend who works in the oil business. He has to make phone calls from remote mountains where he gets no signal, but with a booster he tells me he can easily make the call.
Here are some links i pulled up on google.

Sorry, that was probably not the answer you wanted to hear.

If you are rooted then you can try flashing a different radio if there is one for your phone. You can search in the xda-developers.com forums.
