Overclocking my Intel core i7 3930k

Thread Starter
Ok I have been working really hard to overclock this beast for a while now since I got the last kit to make it quad channel memory supported and I am finding its a whole lot harder to overclock when its running quad channel vs. dual channel. B4 I was running an overclock at 4.8 with 2133mhz memory at or around 1.4vcore with a lot lower temps then im getting now. Now im getting under load 90 degrees C on some cores and around high 70s on most the others. I am running currently at 1.395 vcore with a high setting on LLC and XMP profile at 2133mhz. I am not worried about getting any higher then 4.8ghz now as it comes at the cost of seeing throttling due to I think my VRM temps. all im concerned about now is how I can get my old overclock or close to it with dual channel an acceptable temps in a quad channel setup

Thanks!

Marcus

P.S.

Is 90 acceptable on some cores when stress testing idle im running in the 40s and 50s

Rest of system specs... what is your cooling. Need more info. 90 is hotter than I would go but certainly not uncommon for high clocks/volts and mediocre cooling

Top right of the page there is a "Rigbuilder" option (in light blue) then select Create Rig (also on right) , complete it so we have a better idea of what you're working with.

One of them is the 120mmx34mm scythe ultra kaze and the other is a fan believe it or not that I pulled out of a air hockey table that really moves some air...I plan on getting corsair sp120s to use on the push side but on the pull side I got the stock fans of the h100

Yeah, mixing and matching fans certainly isn't ideal. Not sure why your temps would jump up that much. Did you reseat the cooler when you changed things?

Firstly, you can't mix and match fans. That will cause some serious problems with static pressure. Try putting the the stock fans back on (in pull - pulling fresh air into the case), alone, until you can get the appropriate setup. Also plug the fans directly into the motherboard so they run at full speed.

See how that does first.
