Blank screen after windows logo.. but I can boot up normally in safe mode!

post #1 of 37
Thread Starter
Just installed a clean version of Windows 7 and after I boot up to my desktop and install my GTX 470 drivers (newest ones, and I've tried the beta) it asks me to restart; I restart my computer, and after the windows logo screen, my screen goes blank/black. I boot into safe mode, and my computer boots up normally. I tried installing windows on a HDD and a SDD, placing my GPU in another PCI slot, swapping memory, swapping DIMM locations, using windows drivers, and I've had no luck.

Any ideas, because everything is at stock clocks?

Try installing the Nvidia drivers with just one GPU installed and see if you can restart

I know my signature states I have two GTX 470s, but they are not in SLI. My motherboard does not support SLI, but it can be hacked (which is not working for me).

Long story, short: I am only running one GTX 470.

============================================================================

At the moment, I am trying an older NVidia driver.

Furthermore, I tried installing MSI AfterBurner to see if I'm at stock clocks and it wouldn't load the program (I bet it's because I have no video drivers installed, but it's possible windows installed their own... since I believe the tray on the bottom right of my deskstop said something about it).

I've had problems with both the latest and the beta with 480's, I had to do a full manual removal This one, try that from safe mode if you can't get to normal? And it still won't fully complete, installs the driver and the audio and refuses to do the physx and the rest.

I tried installing drivers from Nvidia that were released around March '12, but during the install my screen went blank so I went ahead and removed the GTX 470 and placed another one in the same slot.

I booted up normally, and I'm not sure if it's by luck. After the Windows Logo screen, my screen went blank as usual, but this time I had a cursor pop up and shortly after windows booted. Once windows booted it installed the driver for my GTX 470 and audio and other devices.

It did say I needed a restart, for the the GTX 470 driver, and I'm about to restart and see if I can boot up.

Try with one stock of ram.
Edit: You've already tried that...
You tried another HDD, could be dying.

My apologies for not stating this as well, please forgive me:

But I am only running one stick of ram (one of the corsairs, and I have tried swapping sticks and DIMM slots).

===

Somewhat good news: After windows installed generic drivers for my 470, I restarted, and luckily booted into the operating system. Looks like I can play my video game too, but I bet I'll have better performance with Nvidia drivers....

Ladies and gentlemen, I am starting to think my problem can be software and hardware related. My motherboard must be junk or something.

You were saying your board cant SLI? why not?
Have you tried each card individually could be a faulty card.

I've played with both cards, and the only thing I can think of that may be a problem is.. The person I bought the GTX 470 from (just one card purchased private seller), had it watercooled...so it boots up with 1800MHz memory clock compared to the 1600/1700 stock. I believe the reason HyperSLI (sli hack) doesn't work is because of my ETHERNET and/or AUDIO drivers (realtek NIC),

EDIT: I'm thankful to have people posting in my thread!

Nah i don't think its the overclock most overclock will reset itself when formatted because it's a software thing.
Have you tried a different video connection?
Apparently HDMI doesn't work properly until the drivers are installed so try VGA or DVI? or anything else really.
