Overclock 3930K

Ok everyone. I need some help here. I have overclocked my 3930K but I dont think its stable. I want to know what the exact values are I need to change in bios to keep my OC stable. I will carefully layout the exact detailed specs of my rig and I hope someone can help me

Motherboard: ASRock Extreme 6/GB LGA2011
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K 6Core
Memory: 32GB G-skill 32GB DDR3-1600 MHz Quad Channel 9-9-9-24RAM
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3GB Graphics
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB SSD
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011

I have a CD/DVD Drive, no HDD except an external one

My motherboard is running bios 1.5 which is the latest version

The way I have OC'ed it as is is with the EZ OC tuner built into the bios. It will automatically select the best settings for the clock rate you want to OC to.

As is, my computer will at any given time, completely freeze up, and sound will stutter out of the speakers like a machine gun, and it will stay like that, ice frozen until I hit the reboot button. What could be causing this? What are the percise setting I need to have the most stable OC. My OC clock rate I chose was 4.6GHz.

Your problem is that you are using the Bios Featured Overclock settings. Which don't work at all in reliability or stability. You're going to have to take your time learning like everyone else does.

Follow this guide:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

Shouldn't take you too long to achieve a decent overclock.

Those guides are for SB and IB on LGA1155... mine is SB-E on LGA2011

Auto OCing is not that reliable due to the fact that they achieved usually by the system overvolting everything in sight.

BiG StroOnZ has supplied a guide for you to look at it. OCing 3930ks are fairly simple now days. Its gets a little tricky if you want to apply offsets but its pretty straight foward.

The OC principles remain the same. I used this guide to OC to 4.7 Ghz and I have a Sabertooth board smile.gif

Alternatively, you could google your mobo and 3930k overclock and see what instructional vids ASRock has...

Hey no probs. We where all new at some time smile.gif

When I went from a 775 to a 2011 platform, I asked the same question and I quickly found out that there is no right answer.

Someone will post back and say, set you Blk to 100 and your CPU frequency to 46... thats fine but your voltages will be all over the place. Chances are, it wont be stable either.

In order to get a strong, reliable OC, Id strongly suggest you do google "ASRock and 3930k Overclock" and see what video tutorials ASrock have. Read your mobo manual and get use to your BIOS.

When you get use to your BIOS, you will know how to trouble shoot and be able to push your CPU to its limits... with confidence.

Have a play... the worse that can happen is... a BSOD or a crash... you wont break anything... with sensible clocks thats is smile.gif

Have some fun with your new toy and get to know what makes it tick thumb.gif

Are you running stablity tests eg Prime95 or is it the same issues as your original post ie "completely freeze up, and sound will stutter out of the speakers like a machine gun"?

Im at 1.336v at 4.7Ghz, load at 67c... I dont consider myself a daredevil tongue.gif

If you can keep it below 1.4v (generally) with temps below 80c constantly, your pretty safe. Some people are on or above 1.4v and they seem happy enough.

Can you post your BIOS setting and we'll see what we can do.
