Is Metal Gear Solid worth getting?

Thread Starter
I was surfing on Amazon for stealth games and saw Metal Gear Solid pop up. I'm quite curious as I've never played MGS before but I have played Splinter Cell/Hitman and loved them both.
Thing is, MGS 1 and MGS 2 are both $130 and $70 new. This was the only trustworthy place I could find them as they aren't on Steam, Green Man Gaming, or Good Old Games.
As such, I'm left with a pretty steep price. tongue.gif

Have they stood the test of time? Are they as good as Splinter Cell and worth buying?

Thank you for reading. smile.gif

@ those prices No, but if you can get both for 20 or less sure. I can't imagine too many optimizations were made for the PC versions but hey, maybe they have actual eyes on the pc. tongue.gif

I have played all of the Mgs and loved them. The new ones listed are insanely priced cause they are hard to find. There is one part of Mgs where you battle one boss with psycho mantis that even beats some of todays games.

It's not on Steam, Good Old Games, or Green Man Gaming. These were the best prices I could find without going to really shady/suspicious sites. frown.gif

NO WAY FOR $120. There's a couple of ebay auctions for PC MGS for ~$22.

I played MGS/II on PS and they're great titles, though.

Eh... I'm a little cautious of that place. Seen some shady stuff go down there.
Still, both games bundled would run about $70. Still worth it?

So you're saying not to waste my money?

As a current massive fan of the series(my fav of all time ahead of AoE) that has three MGS posters on my wall at this very second, on top of having a signed copy of MGS by Kojima and Shinkawa, owning every game save the last 4 portable games, owning two copies of the original MGS for the NES, I can give a resounding YES, you should not waste your money on them. At some point in the next few years I can see more and more game libraries being released on the PC because of the ability for companies to still make money on old games instead of letting resellers make all the cash.

If you've never played those MGS titles before then yes. The third one, Snake Eater, was pretty good too (if you've played the others and like the gameplay). You cant put a price on certain experiences in video game history.

MGS2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I recommend anyone that is slightly interested in stealth style games should play it.
