this is exactly what i have. The catleap and the Achieva are the same panel on the inside. all of the monitors we purchased were from Dream-Seller. Ive seen the price as low as 250 per and as high as 360 per. I got mine at 290.
also, you said you have a dvi to hdmi. thats good, but you need to make sure it is DVI-D (dual link) to HDMI. a regular DVI will not work with 1440p. only DVI-D.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:DVI_Connector_Types.svg
DVI-D Dual Link is what you need for a 1440p monitor.

can i just buy a dvi-d if my existing one dosent work? easy fix?

ive seen those shimians on uk ebay...these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-ACHIEVA-Shimian-QH270-Lite-27-LED-Quad-HD-DVI-2560x1440-16-9-6ms-PC-Monitor-/110975332520?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Monitors&hash=item19d6a530a8

So theres low chance of poor screens? are i as likely to have the same problems catleap owners have had on their A- grade screens?

Asus 144hz if your a FPS player. Id take the hertz over the resolution anyday. But theres alot of 1440p 60hz fanboys on here.

ive never used a 144hz screen but cant imagine it being that much better than all that extra resolution and space?

whats the advantage to more hz?

From the Korean ones, best is Crossover, Catleap with poor stand and Shimian with random issues, maybe check out overlord tempests. From better ones pick something like Dell U2713HM or Asus PB287Q (Im getting this one).

I would suggest a 1440p off of EBAY also. I got mine a couple of weeks ago, and it is fantastic. I bought a Qnix one for 290 of off BigClothCraft...Don't pay for the pixel perfect one...I didn't, and I don't have a single thing wrong with the monitor. It was crazy fast shipping too. There is no better monitor deal going right now then the EBAY 1440p's...

Asus is even called "Gaming" monitor.... It's 16-20 ms for both, you won't notice that... Every 1440p monitor has bigger input lag...

i have poor luck with ebay and its best to always asume the worst, i wouldnt want to buy 2 monitors that turn up and have dead pixels, any dead pixels. with no options to return or sort that out...

Otherwise if they were going to be perfect id order tomorrow!

The asus looks good but seems to have the same 'pixel perfect' policy as ebay sellers...
