hi guys,
i have just upgraded my pc Amd piledriver 8350 4ghz asus 7970 8gb ramwindows 7 64bit corsair h80 1000w powersupply corsiar 480gb SSD i have just installed wow on my SSD drive which installed slow and didn`t show the install % properly at all. but now its installed i have everything maxed out and i am getting 30-42 fps ? even with the settings lower i am getting 35-42fps. with my old rig which was a phenom 964 and a asus 5870 i could max the settings out and get 55-60fps what the hell is going on ? i am using 12.11 6 beta driver coz the 12.10 has bugs. can i have some help please? all my other games i play are fine ?

im sure there was something wrong with the install of wow, i have unstalled it and tried again and still it doesn`t show the % of the install from the disk, and when it come to the laucher downloading the rest of the game it only download 1.36gb? normally it need to download about 9-12gb b4 you can play the game.

the data folder was only 18.5gb in size ?

is there something i am not doing to install wow on my SSD?

i also noticed that the fps is only really bad in the jadeforest and not stormwind which lead me to think the game hasn`t install everything?

anyhelp please guys

It's not your machine, chances are it's just lagging in those area's. The jade forest and stormwind are going to one of the busiest areas so it's not surprising.

If you want to make absolutely sure then download something like 3dmark11 and run that. If that's running fine then it's down to the servers rather than your machine.

Regarding the install size, since it's a fresh install it's probably not got all the patch exe's in the install folder. You can also just copy the installation folder from one place to the other and it doesn't matter, it will run fine since it doesn't register anything.

hmmm you do know there is actually no need to re install - when i moved wow to my SSD i just dropped the folder on there and ran the launcher - this caused the launcher to download a small ammout, i cant remember the size for sure but it was only small maybe a GB or so. But you can actually put the WoW root folder anywhere as long as you run the launcher exe it will reconfigure for you.

On to the performance issue. I don't use ATI so i cant comment on the drivers but as you mentioned the launcher only downloaded 1.36GB is it possible the game is still streaming data? this will kill the game performance. i know the launcher says its playable but its really not untill you hit the green section (i tried to play when it was yellow ) and the performance was awful even on my sig rig.

Its certainly possible your missing files that is killing your jade forrest performance as the game streams data as you play. My best suggestion is leave the launcher open and let it do its thing until fully downloaded and try again.

Just for your own peice of mind my SSD shows Wow taking up 18.79Gb but i do have mods installed ect. hope this helps.

Mods are tiny so that won't really matter and when you're in the game go to your little computer at the bottom of the screen and see if that say's downloading data... It will show up when you highlight over it.

ok maybe it did install proberly then coz all in all the wow folder was about 18.65gb or somethign like that.

i just don`t know why it would only happen in the jade forest, i asked other people who were in the jade forest and they had great fps with 6000 series cards, even with my 5870 my fps was better.

Have you done the DX11 switch that you can do?

In addition to that, remember that it's an online game and it can be adversely effected by your own link and latency... Before you say you've got an awesome line I have a 120Mb down 15mb up and I still get lag.

i have played wow for years and i have never seen the fps problems i am having now, it just donsn`t make sense that it would be worse on my 7970 than my 5870. my cpu is also twice the speed of my old 695 which was 3.4ghz. it doesn`t do it in stormwind. it might be drivers, i am using the 12.11 6beta ones but people say they are good

You could drop them to the 10.9 and see if you get any joy with those (I'm terrible with AMD cards and drivers to be honest).... Otherwise I'm afraid I can't help, Have you overclocked the machine and what temps are you getting, it's unlikely but it could be throttling.

Yeah Jade forrest is pinned at 60fps for me - not really seeing any slowdowns in Pandaria although as i said im on Nvidia. Hmmm if you have ~19Gb then your install is complete. Also some of the heaveyweight mods can cause the folder size to grow due to addon cache's and personalizations my addons folder is ~255mb as of right now and my UI is lightweight .....rolleyes.gif

A 7970 should obliterate this game, with vsynch off i can hit close to 100fps in areas with GTX480 sli.

Maybe try driver sweeper and reinstall your GPU drivers, didnt AMD just release the best driver in the world with a huge perf increase. As i said i dont follow ATI so im not entirely sure but maybe worth a try.
