FX 41xx vs 960T Power consumption - Page 2

I plan to OC it to 4.0 Ghz. If it goes 4.0 on 1.3v than I may go a little higher but nothing too much.

If this helps you at all.

This was running 1.25v in bios with 50% LLC
1.125v CPU-NB
1.35v Ram @ 1333 7-7-7

With 29c ambient.

Most people just use way to much voltage to get the job done.

4ghztemp.png

There is also extremely low voltage speeds if you were interested @ 3600mhz. Thing hardly warms up like this.

Load1-14vs.png

Now, none of this matters if you can run that 960T @ 4200mhz / 3000mhz NB (for reference, my 1100T @ 4193mhz / 3029mhz on 4 cores only. (load voltage is 1.36v the UD5 has some major Vdroop)

Your CPUID is showing as 4100 ? and as a 95w chip , but 4170 is 125w chip. And how is the performance of the 4100 BTW ?

Lol my 960t she requires around 1.5v to reach 4.0 Gigz. don't know why. But she can be unlocked and go stable at 3.8 , but I updated my mobo Bios so have lost all overclocks and need to do it again.

The performance of the FX-4100 is just fine, the FX-4170 is the exact same chip, but its rated for 125w TDP because it is clocked higher out of the gate.

I suspect you will be happy with the 4170 in the long run in a linux environment.

My FX-4100 should be pulling roughly (calculated, I lack a meter)
~70.8w @ 3600mhz
~104.4w @ 4000mhz
~141.9w @ 4400mhz
~243.7w @ 5010mhz

I think 141w @4400 Mhz is decent enough.

Forgot to ask , what about temps when OC'ed , I have a Hyper TX3 which I could use . Now the FX which I am getting is not a 4170 but a 4100. Surprisingly we in India don't have the 4170.

Looks like my mobo may not support Vishera

A 4170 is a Bulldozer, the 4300 is Vishera.

You may not beable to obtain the same results I do, as I use an H100 to keep the chip cool for the FX-4100, and a Zalman CNPS9900 Max for the 1100T.

I am sure the TX3 will handle up to 1.30v though.

Oopy ya Bulldozer.

Even If I want to upgrade to Vishera I need to change the mobo. So I go bulldozing smile.gif

The only thing I can say at this point is to use it and see if you like it. Just remember, spend some time tweaking the settings, run the voltage as low as you can and you'll wind up some a very cool running dozer.
