How fast does my connection need to be?

How fast does my connection need to be, to be able to stream 1080p resolution without any lagging? In fact, I don't want it to just barely be able to keep ahead of the stream. I want it to be able to get ahead and make it to the end before the data stream catches up. What is the slowest speed that can actually do that? If I can find that, I think I can finally switch to a media streamer device like the Nexus Q or the Roku XS or something to watch TV. And kill my satellite bill.

10Mb or more should be sufficient, I'd personally say 15Mb or more to give you some buffer against network latency and congestion.

Is there a way to easily search for better internet providers in a particular area? There are so many out there, but how do I find out which one is the best one that has service in my area?
