Help me track down this noise! Its mocking me! *Video*

Hey All,

I am having real trouble tracking down this certain noise from my PC, its probably from a fan, possibly the CPU cooler but i reckon you guys will know what it is as soon as you hear it, it sounds like water filling up in a glass!

Here is a video and the sound starts 3 Seconds in - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNx089Xos5U&feature=plcp

Its completely random, i dont have water cooling, just air with a mixture of Noctua fans and Akasa Vipers.

Hopefully someone can help me! I am starting to think its mocking me.

Many Thanks!

Could be a harddrive, or the GPU.
Does it happen under load?

It happens when idle mainly to be honest, i dont think it is the hard drives, they are toward the front of the case and this is coming from the back park.

I do have a fan issue on my GPU where it is constantly speeding up and slowing down while idle, between 20% and 40% speed :/

You tried different drivers?
It sounds like a UFO lmao!
It could be coil whine also which is nothing to worry about.

To fix the fan issue, you could install either EVGA Precision X or MSI Afterburner and set up a custom fan profile. If it's your GPU, it might even get rid of the noise smile.gif

6 days old but what the hey.

Quick tip from me, I had the same kind of rattling/vibrating noise and after several days annoyance I deconstructed my PC to pin point the issue... turned out to be one of the case fans was not screwed in hard enough. Double checked all the stock screws and it seemed a few where not as plush as possible... What case are you using? Stock fans? Could try screwing harder on any stock fans, hdd screws, mobo stand offs etc. thumb.gif

I've heard that same sound from my pc a couple of times. Whenever it happened I could hear a fan spinning after the system was shut down, then when it slowed down I'd hear this sound before it went completely silent. I suspect it might be the PSU fan but that's just a guess.

I have just replaced all the case fans and even the case so it's deffo not them, I replaced my graphics card with a spare I have and it's still happening!

I am now thinking its going to be the power supply fan, I have a corsair 650hx frown.gif

could be a long shot, but the mesh or screen your fan is mounted to is making the noise. meaning, the when the fan blows through the mesh, it does create a sound going through the screen. on my Air build, i cut out all the metal (mesh screen) and it really reduced the sound. only bad part, the fan is now exposed and for some reason, my fingers seem to make their way toward them....lol.
