Upgrade/Change questions.

I'm interested in make the move to Nvidia, i have several reasons, all of which are personal.
I just want to know whether or not I would be able to fit/power a GTX 670 in my case with my mobo, PSU, case etc

CPU: NEW! Intel Core i5 3570K

Motherboard: NEW! Asus P8B75-M LX

RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)

Hard Drive: 500GB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s + 1TB S-ATA III

Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA (Not connected at current)

Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB

Internet: Wireless 802.11N 150Mbps MIMO PCI-E card

Case: Zalman Z9 Plus

PSU: NEW! 600W Xigmatek

I'd like to hear from people with experience with both AMD and Nvidia preferably but any sound advice is welcome.

Many thanks in advance as i have been debating this for several months now, as much as i enjoyed my time with AMD too many of the games I personally love playing are built with Nvidia in mind and are much more efficient on it but I wouldn't be satisfied with a 660ti.

What games are you talking about? Most 'Nvidia-Optimized' games nowadays run better on Radeons.

The big reason for you to switch to Nvidia now without any real performance upgrade (7950 to 670 isn't really an upgrade) would be if you really want Physx. Otherwise, I'd just say that you should check some benchmarks on the games you play, and decide whether it really is worth the hassle to change your GPU.

The fact AMD collapses when faced with PhysX is a shame, and is a factor.
Battlefield 3 is an addiction game for me and at lower frames with an Nvidia it yields smoother gameplay where as with my 7950 it still feels choppy even though i have never gone below 38 FPS on ultra 16x 8x
Borderlands 2 was heavily reliant on physx for parts of the game and the friends i play it with all have Nvidia. I missed out on that because physx on anything above low dropped my frames from constant highs to around 11. That was a key part of immersion lost imo.
Same with metro 2033 the second a grenade detonated it was like using my old Geforce 9300M G/S.
If i had an AMD processor i wouldn't even consider this in the slightest, but i have intel for the same reason i want Nvidia. I live in the virtual world to get a break from reality and just want it to be smooth.

Anyway my question was will i be able to actually fit and power the card in my machine?
And then an optional follow up question would be about brand.

The factor of waiting is always something you should consider yourself. There's been some rumours about the 7xx series of Nvidia, but you'll have to wait some time. There's not much to go on. The waiting game is eternal, so if you are unhappy with your current card right now, you should also just change/upgrade right now. If you look at it the way that you want to wait for something better to come out, you're going to literally wait forever biggrin.gif

As far as the PSU goes, you're fine with 600W.

If you decide to get a 670, you'll be very happy with it. Mine is a beast, and I don't regret getting this. My only advice would be to not get the reference card. The MSI 670 Power Edition is the best 670 you can get ATM, so that would be the best way to go. Don't get me wrong, the ref 670 is not bad, but the extra money on the non-ref (especially the MSI Power Edition) is well worth the money. I regret not getting one of those, even though i love my ref card

Okay, well I don;t mind waiting until the next series and then calling it quits until the one after wink.gif

Is that the sound issue you're referring to there?
I'm going to assume the power edition is expensive right?

It's a little more expensive, but it's just overall better than the reference model. It's quieter, cooler, better performing and sexier tongue.gif If I could, I would have gotten that instead of a ref.

Any reason you chose to go with a 500GB drive and a 1TB drive, instead of, say, a 128GB SSD and a 1TB drive? Much better performance with the SSD.

I was given the 1TB drive not long after purchasing the PC I'm going to swap out the TB HDD with a 128GB SSD as it;s a green drive and i don;t trust it for the life of me.
This wasn;t helped by the previous owner saying about a few issues he had with it.
I think that was just him, but who knows I still don;t trust it.
