need help choosing which cards to buy......

Thread Starter
I've been doing some research and iam almost ready to place my order so I would like to run it by you guys what I would like to get and my system specs..... I've narrowed it down to 3 cards which are the radeon hd 5970, the 6970 and 6870 hd! Iam scared I won't have enough juice to run 2 5970s in crossfire with a 750 watt psu, can I run 2 6970s in cf with 750 watts? And if not will I be able to run 2 6870s in cf with 750 watts? Out of these 3 cards I like the 6970 the most, running 2 of them will I meet the minimum requirements? No offence towards 7000 series cards but I just don't like them- I had 1 recently and returned it thee next day so 6000 series or 5000 series until of course the 8000 series comes out..... is there a huge diffrence between 2 6870s in cf and 2 6970s in cf perforance wise? I would like to use 3 monitors to play fsx and still get decent frame rates please keep that in mind. Thanks guys

Hey mate,

Yes you can run SLi of anything newer than the 6000 series or the 500 series. SLi 590's would post an issue i'm sure.

Don't bother with the 5970, it's 2 gens old and not that good

The 6970 is a nice enough card however i'd personally go with a 7850 if you can't afford the 7950 to be honest.

Just seen you don't want the 7000 series, in which case 2x 6950's would be epic...

When they first came out about £70 each... No difference in the cards really once you've overclocked the 6950.

Without breaking a sweat... a 750w PSU will run 2 GTX570's. My HX650 did 2x 570's for a while.

Yeah, that's a good enough PSU and I doubt you'll see any real issues with it.

I used to have 6850s in crossfire (it's a little bit weaker than the 6870) and had great results. It's better than a GTX 580 on games that fully support the xfire.
Framerate in BF3 was 50-80-ish on ultra with the 6850s, but I had to lower the AA to 2x due to the limited amount of VRAM.

OP what was the problem you faced with HD 7000 series card. which model did you get . was it a bad card ? the HD 7000 series is much better than HD 6000 series. With current drivers a HD 7850 beats a HD 6970 in the most demanding DX11 games like BF3, Crysis 2, Batman AC.
